Jerseys - Is there a difference MTB/Moto

It is time to get an inexpensive jersey or two. In my quest I have checked the usual mtb sources and when I have checked the web to look for the best price I end up seeing a lot of moto jerseys that look exactly the same.
In your experience are they really the same?

 

I suggest the cheapo ones at Walmart. They come in several solid colors. I've had a few of them for years and years in my jersey collection.

Moto jerseys are usually loose fit with 3/4 or full sleeve.

 

Sometimes costco has cheap ones too - probably better quality than walmart and without all the obnoxious logos you'd get on a moto jersey.

 

@CBone If you’re after long sleeve jerseys, they are essentially the same. Pay attention to what you’re buying because every company has a line with increased airflow; which you may or may not want. I find the best deals at www.rockymountainatvmc.com in their closeouts area. If you live anywhere near Laguna Beach, the Troy Lee also has a rack of last years stuff at big discounts...usually $30 each.

 

You mean a shirt that you wear when riding a bike?

I scored a few Patagucci Capeline LSs from the outlet in Reno, under 15 each. Mountain Hardwear closeout zip T was cheap online. I tend to stick with the brands whose garments have lasted me a long time under heavy use in multiple activities. Patagonia, TNF, MHardwear make the grade.

 

Whatever you buy make sure it is not made from cotton. No bueno for wicking sweat.

 

Any motocycle dealer has their section on MX and always have discounts on jerseys, you can score some MSR for around $20

 

Ive been wearing less jerseys and opting for light weight T-shirts made of active material. Nice because I will even wear them when not riding my bike.

 

I prefer to purchase mountain bike specific clothing. The higher end stuff tends to fit better, as they are typically cut to accommodate the riding position. And, usually made of some type of stretchy anti-microbial sweat wicking material. Most LBS's and website have clearance sections that can be gone through with a fine tooth comb. I'd stay away from MX specific jerseys. Most of them are loose fitting and run longer than needed. Good luck with the search. Always remember you get what you pay for.

Thanks everyone. In the past I did purchase inexpensive jerseys/activewear from Costco etc. I found that they weren’t as durable as I would like and were often too light.
I have a Fox jersey I bought several years ago that is just about perfect for me. It is durable and breathes well also.
Matches my bike too .
I’ll report in the close out specials when I get them.

 

Um, I kind of like the semi-obnoxious ones. It must because I couldn’t afford a moto and gear when I wanted it.

Costco in FV had some nice technical LS about $20 make nice LS Jerseys

 

I have been buying Columbia shirts for the last few years. I buy the Omni freeze for those blazing Bakersfield summers and the Omni heat that keeps me warm in the winter. I pick them up at a Columbia outlet. The best place is the Camarillo outlets, they have all the brands, TNF, Columbia, UA and many more.

 

And if you are a AAA member, show your card at the outlet customer service desk for COUPONS!

 

Just checked , it says 104 miles and 1 hr 50 min to get there. I'd put dollars to donuts it's a 4 hr trip.
Next time up that way I'll check out the outlet.

 

There’s a Columbia outlet at the San Clemente outlet malls. Little closer than Camarillo.

 

I prefer the mtb-specific jerseys too. The Costco / outlet store long sleeve tees work in a pinch, but nothing compares to higher quality, activity oriented, jerseys.

There’s a decent “outlet” in Ventura too. Real Cheap Sports, they sell Patagonia, Kuhl, Marmot, Mtn Hardware, etc. it’s really close to the Patagonia store.

Picked up two moto jerseys. Maybe a little longer than a mtb specific jersey but nice fit. The O’Neal I bought at a local moto shop. $24.99.
Fly jersey was online. $27.
One subtle and one with a little flash. Both with some arm protection and warmer for cold weather rides.

 

The above is exactly what I do. Rocky Mountain is my go to. MTB specific jerseys just seem to be way more expensive and don’t go on major sale.

And yes watch out for vented moto jerseys. I’ve made the mistake, but it turned out to be a good thing. They are actual cooler to wear than a standard short sleeve shirt on some days. I call it “turbo cool.” You sweat a little and the air flow through the jersey really cools you down. Great for warm days where you want protection for your arms from brush or PO.

A standard moto jersey with a wool undershirt are my go to for much of the winter.
