Ride Name: Hellacious Ride 2019....3rd Annual
    When: Cancelled
    Time:
    Where: Hangar 24 Brewery, Redlands
    Ride Description or Details:
    READ THIS DESCRIPTION CAREFULLY.

    This is a self shuttle.

We will start in Big Bear Village....yes, I said Big Bear.

From there we do an easy 4.5 mile climb up Knickerbocker up to the top of 7 Oaks. 2.5 Miles down 7 Oaks....loose, narrow, flowy, loose, steep. This leads us to a 6 mile gentle grade climb up Front Line Rd/7 Oaks Rd. to South Fork where the actual "Hell Ride" started.

This is where we start SART. 13 miles later we pop out on Hwy 38, before dropping back down to the Middle section of SART. Another 11 miles of mostly DH some chunky, flowy, loose, fast singletrack....and some fast fire road.

This puts us at the bottom of the climb to Morton Peak....this climb hurts, but it's only about 1 mile long.

This leads us into the lower section of SART.....quite a bit of raw trail. Some very narrow sections, some very loose sections....plus some fast and flowy sections.

We end up with a short roadie back to Hangar 24.

This is not a beginner ride. This is a strong Intermediate ride. While the elevation gain per mile is minimal, you still have a few stout climbs, and some are later in the ride.

This is a long ride.....you will spend most of the day on your bike.

    My Ride Rules:

    1. Don’t question the route....you are invited to join a ride I’m hosting, either it works for you or it doesn’t. If it doesn’t, find one that does.

    2. Ebikes are not welcome on any of my rides.

    3. No complaining

    4. Know your limits.....keep in mind, you will be 50 miles from your vehicle......i'll let that settle in.

    5. Be prepared...you and your equipment

    6. Be on time

    https://www.strava.com/activities/1251128458

Don't show up for this ride if you do not receive a group confirmation PM from me before the ride.

Don't ask me if you can bring a buddy, a friend of a friend. Don't show up with anyone not on my confirmation list. I have no problem leaving those people at the meet location.

I'm gonna cap the rider count at 20. Hellacious Ride Alumni will get priority.

Due to logistics, everyone will contribute to the shuttle. Sorry, I won't be using a service for this....it is a self shuttle.

The drop dead date to commit is Monday 11/11....you should know by this date whether you are gonna go or not. This gives me the week to so sort out the shuttle logistics.

This ride will happen if there are 2 riders or 20.

I will drop an ice chest at the top of Middle Control Rd. on the way up as a refuel point.

We will roll from Hanger 24 @ 6:00am....show up 15 mins early to load up. This gets us to BB Village and on our bikes by 7:30. Yes, it's early, but the days are getting shorter.

Sorry if this sounds too structured....but it is a long way from Point A to Point B to just "wing it"

    Questions......ask.

Not interested in comments from the peanut gallery on this one.

PM me if you want on the start list....responding to this thread will not count you in.

It will meet and beat your expectations.

Fresh XT resins, that’s how I’ll roll...The hijacked Hightower I rode the first year had sram something or others and they were not happy at all halfway down 7 oaks.

F that I’m riding plus tires again. Survival is key on this ride and I’ve watched you skinny tire XC guys nearly die right in front of me.

I am going to run a SRAM chain. I just won’t be @Grego ...:whistling:
XT Ice Tech all the way beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeotchs!
I will be running Rekon’s but will have a 2.6 on the front maybe on the rear as well.

And, I will be HAPPY to discuss politics with anyone. Anyone with different views I will be happy to prove them incorrect... in other words....WRONG!:sneaky:

    Hmmmmmm? :coffee:
(Other than rumor it won’t fit as a 29er)

As a 29er, it won't fit... If you go 2.6 in 27.5, it will fit with plenty of clearance, but 2.6 isn't a plus tire, and you'll be dropping the BB beyond the design.

SC sold the Hightower as a plus bike, but it's really not. The only size you can run is 27.5x2.8. Thats barely plus...

Hey! I should point out that my SC hardtail will easily fit a much larger plus tire. Maybe you need a hardtail? :p

I think @Faust29 is right on the 29x2.6 is a no go as a rear tire. I tried and it cleared on the stand but had less than 2mm clearance on a perfectly true wheel. Really close to the lower suspension linkage.

    Sweet! Can't wait!

My brother's coming in from out of town and he isn't in great shape, but he works in a bike shop and knows how to do trail side repairs on our SRAM chains. He complains a lot if he has to climb more than 1000' or ride for more than two hours. He's down for this. He'll probably bring one of the e-bikes from the shop.

I can make it to the start of 7-Oaks trail from the Snow Summit lot with only three stops, so I think I am fit to push on a little past there, so you can count me in too! I hate exposure, but my plus-sized tires I just installed should help with my confidence. Or I could just walk those sections. Is there room on the shuttle? Where do I sign up? Do you take checks?

    Anticipating my confirmation PM!

(The preceding was meant for entertainment purposes only and is a sardonic reaction to the strict guidelines posted. Don't worry, neither of us will attempt this ride.)
