@knucklebuster, thanks for putting down prelim thoughts. Glad that the gamble on this bike seems to be paying off; issues working themselves out.

I don't have much to say, other than I'm really happy for you – especially being you are one to do lots of homework to figure things out in advance, and then keep your bike a long time. Candidly, a little bit of vindication feels good. (If it was a goose egg I'd have been distraught...) PRs out the gate is a great sign. My hope is that, as you climb more, you'll adapt to the geo, squish and tune in to your sweet spots (for up and down performance). At that point you'll have something like what my Smash is to me – a true "all-mountain" destroyer that does everything you want, the way you want it, all day if you want to.

    Keep terrorizing the dirt! :thumbsup::)

I’m the inverse of you...mine came w the RS SD air, and I actually got a RS SD coil, but am loving the air enough to not have swapped yet...of course, air is better at my weight

Hi all. Any thoughts on the cheap aluminum models? I've come across the fsx 1.0. Looks like a nice starter bike. I really hate the brake and shifter cables on top of the top tube, other than that are there any other considerations?

Interesting. I haven’t heard of a GG fsx, was not aware of any GG bikes with said routing. :gotnothing:

Got a surprise in the mail today from the guy I bought the bike from 5 weeks ago. Maybe I could have fit into this thing about 37 years ago...
(Unfortunately this is the most stoke worthy thing I've got right now, still waiting on re-done fork to get back)

I'm chomping at the bit now...hurry up and wait!!!
I've had almost 4 months to think about the build, so don't think it'll change much from what's ordered.
Bought the race version. Asked for the Pistola ( extra 5-10mm in rear travel), Bailey mentioned he would see if the shock was in stock for it.

Rock shox ultimate shock and Pike Ultimate 130 fork ( most likely will change to 140 with a different airshaft), XO1 eagle drivetrain, dt swiss 1200 i30 wheels, Recon 2.4 tires, XT brakes. Didn't want the SRAM brakes given my past experience was poor at best with them.

I tend to keep my bikes for 4-5 years so figured WTH, Dan gets what Dan wants! And as a bonus, the Wife's really happy I pulled the trigger....;)

@Danimal, way to go all-in! Stoked for ya!

The C Pistol/Pistola has become a more interesting platform. It’s nudged up somewhere between the al Pistol and Smash. Set up for it, I can imagine a Pistola will have just about the chops of a al Smash. That’s a lot of capability

How long were there chainstays on the alloy bikes? Anyone know?

The new trail pistol are very short at 426mm, makes me wonder how it performs for us tall guys. Maybe the step seat tube angle helps offset this?

If you google “2018 Guerrilla Gravity Smash (or whatever model) geometry” it will pull up an archive of GG’s site with all geometry. I think alloy chainstays were actually shorter. From memory I think the current TP is within a mm of my alloy Smash (Smash stays are longer than the TP from the same year).

I just checked, and I stand corrected on this. Chainstays on alloy Smash and Trail Pistol were the same at 429. Carbon TP is shorter than that 426, carbon Smash is longer at 434.

Yup, Pistola and 140mm fork. And apparently I misunderstood about Pistola travel, and it is still 130 like the alloy version was. Therein lies my Smash lite designation, as front and rear travel are right in between the TP and my Smash.

I had thought of one day putting a Shreddog shock on my MT and adjusting the fork down. But since I'm still deep in newbikitis, I'm having no problem pedaling longish climbs with the MT in 150mm trail mode (shock has a near lock-out too). Gravity mode is a little more challenging going uphill, mostly from trying to keep the steering from wandering.

Tracking says it will be here Thursday. Hopefully early enough that I can get it assembled that day and ride it Friday. Will ride it over the weekend at the latest. Kinda giddy.
