I don't know of how many of us here know Warren Hornaday. @driffter33 ... He Facebooked a message last night at around 10:00pm stating he was looking for someone to come get him. That he "thought" he was on the SOT hiking near Wrightwood, that he was disoriented, and that his truck was at some canyon I can not remember.

I Facebooked back that I got on Facebook well after an hour that he sent it, that I was 2 1/2 hours away, but will get in the vehicle to go find him, but did not know where to start. He never responded.

    Does anyone have any updates?
    :eek:Yes, I'm a bit concerned!

He posted a photo of quadruple decker burger "Post 24 mile, 7000+ft hike podium burger"

I think he's good to go.

I survived thank you all for your concern. If I can find some one to help me and the time to edit my videos and pictures from that day it should be entertaining. I watched them the other day and was laughing thinking what an idiot.

    Never saw this thread...

Hah, that looks grim, Warren. Spend enough time out on the trails and something like this is likely to happen. Better than staying home.

But, please get yourself a PLB if you haven't. (Ten bucks says @Mikie still hasn't gotten one after his brush with fate.:gotnothing:) Just buy, register and toss it in a pack. You'll never know it's there – until you need it. You could save someone's life besides your own with it, too.

But it's like a Vincent Van Gogh painting. It's only worth something after you are dead.

My son was telling me about a smart helmet, it supposedly senses a hard impact and sends the info to your phone, which then sends it to certain contacts if you don’t/can’t turn off the emergency mode! Might be something to look into. I know getting lost is a whole other enchilada, but just throwing it out there

Wearing IMTB jersey when it happened

Used IMTB jersey to staunch the free flow of blood

I'm afraid I failed on the bonus point's. I should have ran out of water. But I held off on drinking what little I had incase I should become inmobil. 32 oz for 24 miles in over 13 hrs hiking leaves one partched. No gushing blood, no mental breakdown, no mechanical breakdown, as for technology. Waterproof shoes are a bad idea when you spend much of the day wading upstream then later find your, still holding water waterproof shoes are now carrying you across the frozen tundra and you are laking long pants. ❄⛄ No torn lycra, no torn thong thankfully. No IMTB Jersey involved. Near death? I don't know it depends on how close the mountain lions were, I could have easily twisted an ankle, broke a leg, slipped and fell. To become injured and unable to continue could have easily left me as a pile of bones for a future traveler to stumble upon.
It was a day filled with bad decisions on my part that ended much better than it could have. Don't do what I did. Plan, prepare, and notify!

Check out the Specialized Ambush with Angi-it is a Bluetooth-linked accelerometer attached to the helmet that senses a crash and will alert help if not de-activated in a certain period of time.
Angi is also available separately for use with other helmets too.

It looks like you kept your shite together, @driffter33. And you won't get an entry in this year's Accidents in North American Mountaineering, so I'll vote for giving you the cred.

Tell me which beacon or tracking unit is looking good to you... ;):)

I guess I would have to look into tracking beacons before I can answer that.
