In a nutshell... illegal non-sanctioned trails are always a good bet regardless of area. Most illegal trails are GNAR!!!

That was Telonics. Tame compared to other off menu trails that also drop into the canyon from Aliso.

OC is doing bad right now, all the good riding (expert-advanced) is off the menu right now. Most of the Santana's trails are closed due to the fires, Trabuco,Holy jim, Cold Water, West and East horse thief,Bell ridge etc.... In Laguna all the gnar is being well patrolled by ranger and rider are being ticketed...

What trail rating is expert level riding required for?
How many of those show up on Trail Forks or whatever?
Is it possible these sanctioned trails may have a/some feature(s) that have these expert lines, but most of our fellow riders take the safe/simpler line?
Maybe I am not jaded in the saddle enough, but I see features on sanctioned trails in OC I have yet to hit like an expert would, but that is just my opinion, and how I currently look at riding. With the fire closure, I spend most of my time in Aliso/Laguna challenging myself, but occasionally head to Oaks to session Hawk/Chutes & features.

Expert-level skills are not needed for any trail.

Maybe it's just too uncool to walk your bike down something necky, but I don't get this ethos about staying off a trail until you can come close to sending it. How can you ever improve if you don't see where you're going? People make way too much of this difficulty stuff. It's not like a mountain climb where you can be truly hosed if you don't have the chops. Dismount – problem solved. Clean it next time, or never, it doesn't matter. (Be ready to fall on your ass getting down steep bits.) Go get some fresh views and F anybody that doesn't like it.

That's one I'd like to try... Even if I walk bits. And if you compare the elevation profile to Biscuits and Gravy, it looks relatively tame. :Roflmao That one will not be on my to do list...

I got off my bike and walked two sections of a trail I was riding blind this week. Both brakes full locked and still falling down a super loose chute. Hardly could walk down. No shame in my game! If it was uncool then so be it, however I will still try trails despite my level of coolness. Thanks Mike
