Didn't you guys get the email recently from them stating that they were aware that portions of the routes were a mess but that they were working hard to fix what needed fixing? I got it last week.

It could be done on a gravel bike, but there would be a few parts that would be way too sketchy. Vista DH, Starr Rise, East Ridge climb, Oso descent, and then the sand in the Arroyo on the way back... No thanks.

I think a hardtail is perfect and that's what I'll probably ride. But... If I get the fitness way up, I may ride the Hightower as KoKo training. I'm just not sure I want to drag that one for 75 miles.

I think that’s just his way of saying he’s in for the 75 miler.

Maybe @horsebikerider will give him a hall pass out of volunteer duty.

I was actually thinking of taking the Kona. Totally doable, just slower with the lack of suspension. I am not trying for PRs this time around...

I have done the Rwanda ride twice, and I might do it again this year.
I find most of it very Vanilla, and I always wondered what makes it so popular (I might answer my own question right there).
I can come up with a few guesses, but a "truly challenging MTB ride" was not one of them.
I know that they added the 75 miles option, but it is basically more of the same.

In about 9 days (April 6th) Not Dot Adventure will be holding their first ever Grand Fundo. I had a chance to ride the course last weekend with Jon Kearley, and IMO the course will challenge most riders' ability.
I signed up for the 50KM, and it looks like we will end up climbing about 7300 ft. ouch.

I'm using the event as another stepping stone on my way to Bikerpelli fitness (and ultimately BCBR completion).

Does anyone plan to do the Grand Fundo?
Should I start another thread for it? (I got nothing to add)

So... Signed up for the 75 yet? :p

Seriously... If you are going to sign up, sign up for the big kids' ride. If you aren't feeling it after the 50, you can always stop there. It's not a race, so there is no pressure... Except for the peer pressure of the guys you're riding with. :whistling:

But... There's no penalty for signing up for the bigger route. The end of the 50 route is the start of the extra credit loop on the 75. If you're done after 50, then all is good. Roll in and have a beer. But if you're having one of those great days on the bike where everything is clicking, then you roll right into the extra credit loop.

Edit: And... The extra credit loop is basically what I go ride when I need a quick and easy workout. I used to avoid most of it on the single speed, because it's too flat.

Star Rise is the downhill that takes you into Caspers proper. No access from RSM to the lollipop portion of the loop without it.

I think the plan is still for the county to have those portions ready. The past few years they have run the equipment through the Bell Trail (Caspers) and the Arroyo in O'Neill just prior to Rwanda.
