Growing up my dad was a member of the local search and rescue team. He specialized in swift water rescues and tracking. As a youngster I was the training dummy. Can’t tell you how many times I jumped in the Kern River confident that my dad and his drunken volunteer buddies would fetch me. I don’t like water much these days. Tracking missions were more like here kid take this orange and go hike around and pretend to get lost and we’re gonna find you. I wouldn’t trade those days for nothing. My how times have changed. I feel sorry for my own son.

 

“Captivating” is the perfect word! Way intense for my taste, but watching these guys do their thing is amazing!

 

The good old days when kids weren’t coddled! Good times!

 

TFPU!!! That is some SERIOUS water. Big, steep, fast and powerful. But, like anybody good enough at their sport to don a Redbull helmet, these guys handle it with ease. Only saw one guy roll - and as I mentioned elsewhere, that's a very normal part of the sport. Often intentional.

Didn't see any P-Lines. I imagine a portage would be as harrowing as the drops.
