Nature Valley Uses a Santa Cruz

...... not particularly well.

 

What the hell was that? Skidding and crashing on a fire road.

Santa Cruz should insist on pixelating the name on the bike.

 

I am surprised their name wasn’t blacked out. They should of gotten a real mountain biker and did the company proud.

Why would any company run an add campaign with someone crashing a bike? Are they trying to equate crashing a bike with someone doing a 360 roll in a kayak? WTF moment.

Nope. Eskimo rolls are a necessary and intentional part of (real) kayaking.

 

So kayaks never tip over? They don't show him coming up, so can't assume it was intentional.

Crashing a Mtb is also pretty essential in learning to ride. Anyone who has never biffed please post up!

 

It appears they're showing a mishap to me. He goes upside down and they cut away. They don't show a complete roll.

 

He has his paddle tucked to the side of his boat in the position that you take when you are intentionally practicing a roll. Ask me how I know.

PS: He is wearing a spray skirt, meaning the boat is designed to be rolled.

 

Crashing is never an intended part of mt. biking. An eskimo roll is a highly-trained skill that is essential to whitewater kayaking, and was invented so that the original eskimo kayakers wouldn't freeze to death in the water. In a whitewater situation, it's essential so you don't have to exit your boat and be at the mercy of the river and need to be saved by your buddies.

I have practiced hundreds of rolls in my kayak, so that when I need it, it's automatic. This guy was doing an intentional roll.


Granted, he is not in a whitewater kayak, but his boat is designed to roll, based on the sealed cargo areas and his spray skirt (the part that seals him into the cockpit).

Open water or sit-on-top kayaks like you see around here, or inflatable kayaks you see on rivers can't be rolled. Well, at least not up.

 

Lol, the Walmart brand GV, makes better granola bars than Nature Valley. I don't get the bike crash either.

 

I agree! I kinda like that advertisement..it’s action, adventure, beautiful scenery...and hopefully it motivates people to get off of their butts! #optoutside

The only reason I posted it was because they used a mountain bike in the add. I didn't really care that he crashed. He did seem like a legitimate mountain biker though.

Spray Skirt? Is that for trail side emergencies? Some here might be early adopters of this innovation.

Yes. You wouldn't want the wind to blow your pee up onto you, so a spray skirt keeps it down low. Ask me how I know.

OK, and in case you were serious, a spray skirt is a neoprene gasket a kayaker wears around his/her waist that attaches to the rim of the cockpit, forming a watertight seal.



I think you can see where the spray skirt may fulfill the first function I described as well.
