Whoa, do those (mostly) solid discs glow red when they get heated up?!

After looking through the link page, I was wondering how soon it would be before gravel bikes had suspension up front. Well, it's there to see now.

Huh... Not sure THAT was the bike I would expect to see Noel introducing next.

    Cool company, nonetheless.

Cannondale introduced the Lefty Oliver a few years ago with 25mm of travel on their gravel bike. And Lauf has had a gravel specific fork for a while. I am sure there are others by now too.

I demo'ed a Cannondale Slate when it first came out on some MTB trails (Hulda Crooks in Redlands). It was surprisingly nice. Since I seem to be accidentally collecting used big C bikes (My XC, CX and new to me roadie Super6), I am tempted to look for one.

Thanks for sharing the info. It seems that these gravel bikes are ever so slowly evolving into mountain bikes. Look back several decades when mountain bikes were invented to see some similarities.

The Black Mountain I'm building up is basically a light-duty mountain bike. Right now working around 40mm tires, but eventually moving up to 45. Maybe someday putting on 27.5X2.25 on it.

It's pretty sexy but 30 lbs in the most expensive build for a 29er when it's Primer/Ripley/SB4.5 competition can be built at 26...and not the Yeti SB130 just being dropped as well. I'm also not a fan of the SuperBoost rear hubs when every other bike I have is standard Boost spacing which allows me to swap wheels if necessary.

Personally, I am over the weight conscious thing. A healthy rider overcomes added weight in no time. Our bodies adapt in just one or two rides and then there is no looking back.

I'm on board with you about the Super Boost, though.

I guess its the "healthy" part I get hung up on :D I have a couple buddies that have 32+ pound bikes and they feel like tanks. I don't know how they ride them. My Tracer is 31 but it's also built up to take some abuse.

I used to have a customer who would bring in his Cunningham for service. Very similar to the one in your pic. He liked the way I adjusted the roller-cam brakes. You can see a great pair on the forks of the bikes in your " brace" pic

I rode a slate when we were shopping for a CX bike for my wife. One of the guys at Roy's rides one and was trying to sell my wife on it, when she couldn't find the Salsa that she was looking for. When we showed up to demo a bike for her, he let me take his out for a spin. I was only on it for a short spin, but it's a real fun bike. In fact, had I ridden that while shopping for mine, it would have definitely ended up on the short list.

IIRC he has the rear one on the chain stays. I may be spreading internet rumors though.

Most of those were put under the chainstays, on U-brake studs, like BMX bikes.

I have my WTB roller-cam on the seat stays of my old Merlin.

The serial number is only #8C nice!

Skinny tires for commuting duty, notice the road grime...

The brake design is amazing. They are just a total beeyatch to set up properly. Dual Ti springs, sealed bearing rollers, zerk fittings, and the wonderful wedge that can give so much "modulation". And provide so many headaches... Get it all right and you got a great rim brake.

Not time for a new bike yet. I don't suffer from N+1 with bikes. Surfboards, yes. Skis, yes. Bikes? Fortunately I'm content with one all-mountain rig at a time, and have no desire for a hardtail, singlespeed, mid-fat, full fat, XC-race, cyclocross, gravel grinder, backcountry or any other iteration of mt. bike. I'm also not tempted by the latest miniscule improvements like boost, super boost, metric blah blah.

That said, I can see myself getting a new bike next spring or a year after, and I will give some 29ers a try. I can't see myself buying another Knolly however. Something weird in the kinematics that makes it more of a chore going up than it should be. Some weird chain growth/chain tension counter-rotation thingy that only Varaxis can explain. Great manners pointed downhill though.
