Wood working. Never knew it could be fun.
I had a 4x8 a trailer sitting in my yard for 10+ yrs used it sparringly for dump runs. Was looking to give it away then a video of a teardrop trailer came up on my Youtube. Idea born.
I quickly started brainstorming. Found plans for one online. It has no rounded corners not ready for that. Been working regularly on it for 2 weeks or so.
Got the floor almost ready to go and a wall. Spent yesterday using truck bed liner spay protecting the bottom.
Hoping to have it done in a few months. Short weekend MTB gettaways are the plan as I have another travel trailer.

Agreed. What little I have done, I have enjoyed.

Just be careful not to work with wood for too long at a time. (you might get blisters) :whistling:

Serious question...wouldn't it be easier to just take a tent? Yeah yeah I know the point of this is to build out a trailer, but....

Trailer will limit speed on freeways and what roads you can take, plus reduce fuel efficiency. The best part of camping for me is sleeping outside. This trailer won't do much that a tent doesn't do. It's not like we often deal with bad weather down here. In fact, this thing will be miserable to sleep in when it's hot out due to lack of air flow.

FWIW I don't get those Tepui roof top tents that are all the rage either. Doesn't seem real smart using a shelter that you have to take down every time you want to move your vehicle.

Interested to see how it turns out though. Maybe you can add a flip up window on each side or the front and back to get some airflow.

    Derail...

That is one of the downsides to the roof top tent. I've gotten pretty good at getting it set up and taken down, probably 10 minutes or so. But it is so nice to be up off the ground on a nice memory foam mattress looking out over the landscape. You just gotta plan accordingly...

Let the kid have some fun! A tree fort on wheels. I hate tents. Hate is a strong word. Okay I really hate tents! Just that simple elevation off the ground with an air mattress makes life alllll better. Plus you can have some wall amenities that you can't have in a tent. like a big screen TV! o_O

You must have missed the roughly part. As I have told many a doubter. Life is short do funshit. This is a very fun moment for me just ask my wife when I walk into the house at 9pm glowing like I just had sex for the 1st time. If I were practical I would drink beer and watch TV like most others. That aint me.

James, that thing is sweet  When you want to roll up and be set up already, a hard-sided trailer is awesome, double awesome in Sh!t weather. Get your propane, solar/12v/inverter in there and live large. A vent fan at top and don’t scrimp on the insulation, forget the AC. You could put an awning(s) on it. Easy for me to say... have fun building and using!

I see you are using a nail gun. I hope you are using ring shank nails at least. If not I would recommend screws. It's amazing how much tailers rattle and shake when on the road. I would hate for a normal nail to vibrate out...

@LLPoolJ, will the rear roof/hatch swing open? I spent a lot of nights on the prairie under the shell of my truck, and it was great watching the sunset and stars with the tailgate window up.
