Just throwing this out to see if anyone else has experienced same issue. The ball/pad of my left foot has been very sore and swollen since Saturday after a ride. No crash or other single event that I remember. It appears to been isolated to just one spot in the middle of the pad behind middle toe. Like a little swollen ball. Impossible for me to walk without limping or sharp pain. I have iced it as much as possible this weekend, but have to work and walk around today.
Any insight or personal experience with similar issue welcomed. Thanks

Something similar happened to me but on my heel after stepping down “wrong.” It got worse for a day or two and then started to heal. Took 2 weeks before the pain went away. If no improvement, see an orthopedist. I know a good foot/ankle specialist in Duarte if you have PPO and are interested.

I get tightness and pain under there related to Plantar Fasciitis. Stretching the toes up using your hands or the ground to push the foot against helps. Try a wrap around your arch next ride, just athletic tape. If that helps, grab a velcro arch support.

Also, buying a new bike part seems to help. :devilish:

Time for a new bike...

I am told one of the side effects of the Chameleon is unexplained pain.

OK, in all seriousness, best wishes for your mystery pain. Hope it goes away as spontaneously as it appeared.

uh,oh, could be Metatarsalgia or Mortons Neuroma.. Ive dealt with this, it was from running too much I think. Its an overuse injury, although I never really had swelling just pain. shoes too narrow in the toes also can lead to this. Do you ride clips? If so , try switching to flats for a while and place your foot on the pedal so the pedal is further back under the arch almost to your heel to take pressure off the ball, and find an insole that has cushioning and arch support (Sofsole Arch, or custom orthotics down the road with a metatarsal pad). Hoka Bondi or Stinson, or a shoe with lots of cushion and low heel to toe drop for standing all day at work or whatever. Is your second and/or 3d toes longer than your big toe (Morton's Toe?) Extra wide feet? This predisposes you for this problem.

Thanks guys for the responses. A new bike as been on my mind for a couple weeks. I even used my foot pain/injury as a talking point with the wife. "With suspension I'll be safer and and less likely to get injured..." HAHA

Thanks @sir crashalot for the input. I'm giving my foot 1-2 more days to get better before I contact Dr. Icing seems to help, but woke up this morning hardly able to walk on it. I ride with Kona Wah Wah flats. The axle seems to stick up a little in the center of pedal and I think my pad was centered on it and was taking a beating over some rough stuff. Hoping the injury is just a bad bruise and will get better in couple days. I've seen others talk about the axle issue with these pedals. :(

FYI, starting on the 18th, REI begins their Memorial Day sale. They will have Race Face pedals as well as Five Ten shoes 20% off.

Don’t place the ball of your foot on top of the pedal axle, look to place it in front of it.

This. Heck, I put the axle even further back.

Same here. I've had similar foot pains in the past. I wear SPDs and place my cleat as far back as it allows. I believe a roomier shoe will help as well.

There’s no question that a squish bike is easier on the body. Yes, cheater bike factor too, saving you on bad line choice. I’d work both of those angles.
