Hey everyone. I ran across the imtb forum searching for comparisons of new bikes. Found the thread from last summer of Mikie's journey into his new 2018 Hightower and loved reading all the banter and also great personal insight. I bought my first modern MTB at end of last year and have been riding it almost every day. I come from an onroad riding family and have spent 20+ years in the saddle putting in miles on asphalt. Other relative experiences include 8 years of motocross/desert racing and a general love for being out on trails. I purposefully chose a hardtail for various personal reasons and so far found those reasons to be valid. However, this past weekend I rode a demo full suspension around the Luge loop and am afraid I liked it too much! I look forward to reading and learning from imtb posts as well as possibly meeting up and riding with some of you. Thanks for the forum.
    Cheers!

Welcome.....another member of the Chameleon club......

You’ll find there a number of us here. However, your’s looks a bit challenged with the shifty bits dangling off it.

    Ride lots...post lots.

Other than that we have rides and riders from all sorts here....no doubt you can find something that fits.

    Hi Steve,
I tend to do my after work rides in Aliso, El Moro, or like today I enjoy a quick lap using Turtle Ridge Trail. I also have a self made track I use near my house in a pinch. Weekends I head to Whiting, San Juan, Luge, Santiago Oaks. I look forward to meeting more riding buddies. I'll keep my eyes on riding posts or organized gatherings if they happen. Thanks

Welcome, @Derek13 :) Hope to share some psyche and dirt! I'll post an OC ride when I get back. Meanwhile, don't be shy about posting your own rides. Worst that can happen? Solo ride.

Sunday Kona Bikes had a demo day. I grabbed the Satori model. I liked it very much and felt very comfortable going harder/faster over things I'd normally be little cautious of. At the end of the loop I didn't feel like I had done a ride. I did a second loop on my hardtail and my legs got fatigued on the downhills quick. I didn't realize how much 120-130mm of rear suspension absorbs for you.
This Saturday I plan on grabbing a Santa Cruz FS and do the same comparison on their demo day. Aiming for a Hightower 29er, 5010, or Tallboy.

Oh, cool. I was out there on Sunday and at the flag thought I heard a guy mention a demo but he was on an Intense. Great conditions out there Sunday!

My first time down the Luge was on my old hardtail and I went OTB towards the end because I was tired and not paying attention. Cleared the fun stuff and biffed it on flat ground! I was new (back at it after many years hiatus) then though and rode the Luge many more times just fine on the same HT after that.

Wouldn't a evil robot's first instinct be to tell us it is not a robot. Also, wouldn't it study the society it wants to infiltrate, and then emulate them as not to seem suspicious?

Speed is not my top priority if I get FS bike. I'm looking more for stability, efficiency, and trust. I'm 42 that went down last year and fractured shoulder and tore soft tissues. I'd like to learn how to slow myself down father then aim for speed. Haha thanks.

Just finished a quick loop at Turtle Ridge that I enjoy doing. Where is the preferred location to write and post ride details? (Thread) Are quick video clips ok to attach to posts? Thanks.

I hear ya.....broke my shoulder late in 2011.

The Hightower is stable, efficient and trustworthy......but it is fast.

I just LOVE IT when a new member does it right and @Derek13 ... you are doing it right.

Great intro post, good banter, a solid welcome to you my Cruz Brothah!

AND! You have an AVATAR! (Which reminds me, bout time to play A.V.A.T.A.R. With some of those who have not feeegured it out yet.

It is absolutely impossible for me to get through a full ride without raving about my Hightower.

...and if you are on imtbtrails, chances are you have broken bones. Left collarbone snapped, right one shattered... blah blah blah. Let’s go get some epic!

Welcome from Mikie in Frazier Park!

Hi @Derek13! Sounds like we are sort of neighbors who ride similar trails. Welcome aboard.
I too prefer going slow down hills and can't stand full suspension bikes. I am also a pathological liar.:whistling:

I am guessing if you try a Hightower, you will buy a Hightower. That seems to be the other inescapable trend on IMTB - Chameleon OR Hightower (or both per @mtnbikej).

Ride a lot, write a lot. See you on the trails. I'm hard not to see if you're out in Aliso or LCWP on most weekend mornings.
