That trail looks like the equivalent of a cookie cutter tract home to me.

Edit - ok, I see the guy jumping the other guys now but still looks more like a course and not a trail to me..

I'm inspired by trail work that doesn't look like trail work. Sure, every trail is impact, but that atrocity in the OP makes me wretch. No, I won't be visiting a bike park soon. Last time I slid a resort, I realized that that whole experience is the antithesis of my outdoor rec objectives.

    Herz and RWS FTW.

  10. I prefer more chunky natural terrain myself. I don’t like lizards all that much because of the planted rocks. But i did find the photo in the OP inspiring. Here is the background on that trail. https://m.pinkbike.com/news/new-mile-long-jump-trail-swasey-recreation-area-california.html

I'm seeing some fall line action here, which is frowned on by the trail work sustainability crowd but has worked well for game for, like, forever? I used to love game trails in my hiking/trail running days and once followed a huge buck up a ridge until he lost me after somehow crawling under a stand of manzanita. What? He looked down on me from the other side like "I could do this all day."

Backcountry skiing had us above all that and we could take any line we wanted or were capable of, though straight-lining the fall line ate up those earn-your-turns climbs pretty fast. Regardless of line, the tracks eventually melted and flowed into the ocean, leaving plants and soil unscathed.

These days I'll take fast and flowy, or slow and challenging, but really enjoy descending that feels like flying. Here's a nice mix of groomed and wild:

While I appreciate the effort this took, and that many people would enjoy riding on that, the first thing that crossed my mind when I saw the picture was "Autopia."

Maybe I'm just not wired right. :whistling:

  17. I actually posted this glassed out trail photo just to annoy you and invoke a response about rocks.

Probably not. I don't pout while I'm on my bike. That trail you posted the picture of just isn't my thing. I understand that for many people it is the thing. To each his own.

What would a hiker think of these trails?
    They wouldn't be allowed?
Kind of like some of the trails we want to ride...
