Why should I get it?

As I was searching for an eccentric BB for my Niner Sir9 I ran across this bike........
    I don't need it.
I'm not sure I even have a good use for it.
It is just a great deal (as long as the bike is any good)

    2017 Niner RIP 9 RDO 27.5+ 5-Star. $5400 (before active Juncky discount)

Help me convince myself not to get it........ Please.
(for example, top of the line YT Jeffsy cost the same ect.)

Go through ActiveJunky and get another 6-8% off.

Buddy of mine broke one and had reoccurring lower pivot issues.....but t he rode it like he stole it.

Haha, Sharone. You sound like my wife... It's a very good brand/model...it's an incredible price, so much savings. Do you need it? *chirp chirp*

Take a few sick days, gas up, and go ride a bike you have somewhere new. With the "surplus" buy some tires, sealant, brake pads, and some good weed or beer. Way better value. Bikes come and go. Experiences are forever. :)

    I'm just a sucker for a "sale".
In reality, this is too much bike for me.
    It is too heavy.
    I'll never use it.
I don't know how to set up a full suspension bike.
I'll end up hurting myself going too fast DH.
I have no more wall room in the garage (4.5 MTBikes).
The YT is a better fit more me.
I'm not crazy about Orange (don't hate it, but I don't love it either).

    Back to work.

Here is why you don’t buy it......

Niner is really bad at screwing their dealers. Try getting this same deal going into one of the local Niner dealers. They have a tendency to quickly blow out their stock to places like CC/BC and Jenson, leaving the local dealers SOL.

If you find you don’t like it, don’t use it, the resale value is horrible.

At this point in my life, time is a scarcer commodity they money.
Practically I can buy any bike I want, but I can't find more than 7 hours a week to ride.
I go on plenty of vacations, but the bikes stay at home on most of them.

If it all goes according to plan (it never does) in a few years I'll be able to devote more of my time to recreation.

Personally, I have been MORE than happy riding the bottom spec enduro bike, and spending all my spare money on the XC bike. I care about how well my XC bike performs, where as the enduro (which is my everything except XC bike) is just for fun, and I don't care if it is heavy or the suspension isn't top notch, because it is fun.

    And yes, it is fun.

If you are afraid of getting hurt, long travel might not be for you. The long travel soaks up stuff and really lets you carry serious speed. It is a total thrill, but with more speed comes more pain when it suddenly stops. I can ride nearly the exact same trails on my XC HT and my enduro, but I'm not going stupid fast on the XC bike when I'm doing it.

Was your buddy's the current generation?

I think it's a fantastic bike for the price but as @mtnbikej said they're not the greatest when it comes to their dealers and their customers.

Niner is the same company as Huffy now. So it loses all that cool factor now.

He had the electric blue frame....cracked it about 6 months later....they warranties it with the white frame. I’m not as up to date on Niner frames, as they are not on my radar.

Got ya, buddy. Yes, time is a scarce commodity. We could be dead next month.:cool:

Ticking away the moments that make up the dull day
Fritter and waste the hours in an offhand way
Kicking around on a piece of ground in your home town
Waiting for someone or something to show you the way

Tired of lying in the sunshine staying home to watch the rain
You are young and life is long and there is time to kill today
And then one day you find ten years have got behind you
No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun

And you run and you run to catch up with the sun but it's sinking
Racing around to come up behind you again
The sun is the same in a relative way but you're older
Shorter of breath and one day closer to death

Every year is getting shorter, never seem to find the time
Plans that either come to naught or half a page of scribbled lines
Hanging on in quiet desperation is the English way
The time is gone, the song is over
Thought I'd something more to say...

At your service (because life's too short?):

The Jeffsy CF Pro goes for a buck under $4,000, so I just saved you a thousand dollars. You can thank me later. And here's what they say..

"Far out or nothing – JEFFSY® represents our very own definition of trail riding. With gravity DNA, JEFFSY is the most aggressive all-mountain bike on the market, the YT amongst trail bikes, perfect for all those of you who want to ride a tad faster, more aggressive and more creative than everybody else. The frame scores points with a compact silhouette, an undoubtedly gravity-inspired geometry and one of the most aggressive headtube angles to be found on any trail bike today. The low stand over height, distinctive reach, wide riser handlebar and compact chain stays ensure optimal handling. And because we make no compromises, the length of the rear triangle is optimized for each frame size, which helps create a bike that does not handle like a typical 29er. The result is the perfect balance: you climb effortlessly, you fly through corners, and you feel right at home when things get gnarly, hard, and fast."

...a Niner with 27.5 wheels is just wrong by definition.

And that Pink Floyd song is spot on. I loved it as a kid and it's still accurate today.

You don't need it. Ride the crap out of what you have, and if you break then you might need this one.

But I'm with Herz...a 27.5 plus on a Niner???? Blasphemy!!

Rode the crap out of my wfo for 2 years. Badass bike. Bought the new rip rdo cuz it fit better. Longer top tube for my looooong body. Been riding it for 6 months now not an issue . Great bikes. I do keep very good care of my stuff though. When I first got it I did grease all the pivots. Oh ya didn't Santa Cruz get bought out by some Chinese company? Just a thought. Mine are all 29rs. I would check the geo on the 27.5s to make sure its not just a slap and go model.
