Big Bear eagle cam

Two chicks recently hatched...good job!

 

Ahhhh.... The Eagles nest. Brought to you by the fine folks at SRAM!

 

I have actually seen bald eagles and their nest in big bear, on the south side of the lake not far from pine knot trail.

 

Yep, been watching this the past few days. Two eaglets!!!

 

Just came across the webcam today. Very cool. TFPU @mike (and your link on the first post is still valid and live). The babes are still hanging in the nest. Mom or Pop lays over the top of them to help keep them warm (I suppose). Nature is awesome.

Yep. Blows my mind all the time.

 

Sun is shining, the weather is sweet... Makes mom want to give her kids something to eat. Breakfast is over now.

Entertainment industry?...no comprendo.

Didn't see this post until today, very neat.
A few days ago my sister text me a photo of a bald eagle nest in their back yard at Big bear.
I'll be there for Easter weekend and looking forward to checking it out.

 

They look well fed!

 

The weez was watching yesterday, said the kids got four fresh meals through the day. Keeping warm seem to be priority when it's storming, so I guess they make up for it later. Dad has helped as well, with both dropping off food and feeding alongside mom.

Lock down drill at work... sitting in my office in the dark watching baby eagles till the all clear is awesome!

 

When #2 was hatching, Mom hopped up and was watching the little eaglet struggle out of the shell. Something distracted Mom and as she walked across the nest she gave the newbie a full-weight talon smash. I thought the lil' bugger was dead - like, bent in half dead, but he shook it off like a good MTB'r and kept working on that dang shell.

I remember years ago how pissy the locals got when they announced the seasonal closure of the walking trail due to the eagle nesting. Sure, now it is THEIR baby eagle.

This is the most American thing I've seen in a while!

 

Late last week I found another eagle nest cam. This one is on one of the channel islands off the coast of Santa Barbara. Mama had three eggs, two chicks hatched last week, and the third was a day or two after the first two (so the last chick is a little smaller). Didn't have great odds for the third one to make it, but so far, ok. For whatever reason, the two older ones seem to fight allot, so I'd guess they get each other tired, so then the third one is able to get some food from mama and papa. The nest is a bit more untidy than the Big Bear one, lots of carcass and remains laying around, flies, and even mice at times.

 

Momma can hardly sit on her babies anymore they are getting so big. 50* so its raining not snowing. Good for the eagle, bad for the resort. Rain is a ski season killer.

 

Awwww, the wittle eaglets are growing some wittle feathers.

 

Looks like one of the babies died.

 

Yeah, quite the bummer to see that this morning. Damn nature

 

So sad to see natural selection in action. Like the ones that live, the chick that passed away is helping them all survive.

Rest easy, little eagle...

 

Sunday brunch right now. Wonder what happened to the other chick. I noticed one of them was quite dominant, and getting most all the food.
