Big ride, 40 miles and 7000ft. Will call it an advanced ride. Not race pace, something around 5hrs.
Bail out could happen at the end of Motorway, with would put you at about 26 miles and 4300ft.

Make sure you have plenty of water and nutrition.

    Brianne is lead.

B*/MW; then up and down MS?

I'd opt for dropping Harding instead of MS (or even MW twice)--smoother, jumps, no vehicles. But what do I know? I'm not a racer! I like fun! :D :inlove:

    B*-Mway X 2 = 9,000 ft.

If you drop Harding, then you have to ride Santiago Canyon Road back to B*, so you're not avoiding the vehicles. :(

    Unless you shuttle it. :Roflmao

Maybe I meant descending MS with the chance of vehicles around every corner.. And of course there's paved Silverado Canyon back to the start. You could also drop a vehicle at the base of Harding and skip cars except the climb up MS, unless the road's closed.

Have you descended MS? It's kinda wacky.

FWIW, mindless chatter from the peanut gallery. :)

I agree @kioti ... Harding is the better descent. Rockier, nice single track worn in right now, some ruts to contend with. But, I think I'd shoot for the double Motorway, which works out to just under 8000 feet. Or over the peak and back home...

@shawndoh - Not sure what the weekend looks like yet, but I might be in for this.

Is it a derail to mention that the VQ and CC are both shuttles for most riders?

I came down Harding yesterday after Blackstar - Motorway - Maple Springs. The spin out Modjeska Canyon was nice and once on Santiago Canyon, it was only 3 miles back to the car at Blackstar (I expected longer)
I'd love to join you guys for this - man, do I need the training but I'm afraid your casual pace is equal to my race pace :gag:

It'd be like training for last year's race. And possibly this year's..

Alternative option: Park at tree farm, ride Silverado/Maple Springs/Motorway, turn around at base of Motorway and HAB up MW/across MD/down MS or Harding. Avoids mud and provides WHT training op for VQers.

Not I. Might get out there to do an enduro, if there are any left by the time my XC season is over. June basically, or maybe a Southridge race. I hear those are interesting for the more technically minded.

Okay. I saw that you were pretty close to Ben and we could use more people in the Pro class.

I like the idea of Enduro, and that is my preferred riding style, but I don't like our local races. WAY too little riding for WAY too large an entry fee. If our local races were 20+ miles and 4000+ feet, I'd be more interested. I see that the Crafts and Cranks has 5 stages, but last year they scheduled it on two different days (one day 2 stages, the other 3). If that make it all on one day, I might do it. It is also the CES race.

I think Southridge is over until next fall (with exception for the Kenda event). Though I think the DH course looks far more interesting than the enduro course.

Which Ben do you speak of? Pro class- WTF? You won't catch me in the pro class! chuckles.
I think I like enduro, in the way you mentioned. I like the style. I have only done one, the SoCal enduro series, last year. At Vail. I remember a lot of waiting. :/ I feel for the race providers, the insurance and permit fees are probably pretty gnarly. Especially in the OC. I always thought it would be cool if Non Dot could do some of those, in concurrence with the XC races. The trails are there, but they would be tying up most of the park. #expensive and probably a "political" problem as well.

I don't know enough about the Southridge terrain to comment about the DH vs Enduro. I just know a handful of people have told me, they thought I might do well out there because the terrain is more challenging.

It'll be interesting to see what's open then. I could just imagine a massive trail shutdown and a big time showing of volunteers who came out to do some trail work. Because we know how few opportunities there are to make a difference on or dusty stomping grounds... Wishful thinking though.
I'll be doing a road century shop ride. Boom!

Ben Goyette. I assume you are Shawn Huber, in which case you finished 2 minutes behind Ben who races against me as a "Local Pro" ("Elite", etc). Finishing that close to him tells me you would be a direct rival to me. We both upgraded together last year. Looking at our race times, we would have won I think all but one of the Cat 1 races last year if one or the other didn't upgrade. So that makes you top of Cat 1/middle to back of Pro. Ben and I both ride enduro bikes too (I ride mine almost exclusively), he's on a Bronson I on an E29.

The enduro segments at Fontana were a lot of the same segments in parts of the XC course. I'm doing them already as fast (or faster) on my XC HT as the enduro guys. But the DH course looks awesome. Some good videos online.
