You read it here first! The 2018 event will be Saturday March 17. Mark your calendars, and prep your bikes... the fifth edition of a unique and fun bike ride is just around the corner.

New site for the event and up to date information: http://www.stradarossa.com/

Registration which opens up Jan 1st: https://www.bikereg.com/strada-rossa-v

Online registration will be improved for this year. Costs will be straightforward. Start/finish and party will be away from downtown or the warehouse zone. Food will be fresh, and the beer will be local. I think this is going to be great and hope there will be a solid IMTB presence!

Maps/routes can be seen here: http://www.stradarossa.com/2018/03/35-mile-route-map.html

We've updated the URL that redirects above. Registration opens on Jan 1st... all routes are going to be the same price. Most riders sign up for the 100km route, so we just averaged in the other two.

    https://www.bikereg.com/strada-rossa-v

If someone cannot afford the $50, they can just register for the $20 meal, and ride rogue. All the route is public, so we want you to get out there and enjoy the ride!

Any bike works for this one! Steel hardtail with one gear for the 100 miler that is no longer offered...

Hearsay! Totally going to have a 100 mile route... it's the first one we developed!!!

Thunder Burts are the A1+ tire you would love out here! I ride most of it on WTB Horizons, but the TBs will work better on the dirt, and won't be a negative on the road.

Thunder Burts are better than the Slant Sixes I have now? For this type of route, of course...

Yes, definitely fine @Runs with Scissors . I thought you had something burlier on the Kona. I ran Slat Six for a while, and liked them a lot.

On first building it up I slapped on a 2.2 Ikon in the rear and 2.25 Ardent in the front. But I also had a pair of 1.8" Slant Six tubeless reinforced tires lying around, so they are the current shoes. I like them a lot, used them on Thursday's ride on both asphalt and dirt and they worked well.

I was probably thinking of the Maxxis combo when remembering your bike. Even that would be fine though. That Kona is 100% perfect for this ride!

The 100km/60 miler is the one most people do, and we put the most energy into. But the 100 miler is going to be pretty amazing if it comes out as planned. The 30 miler... it's nice but leaves out some of the best trails.

I don't think they'd throw you in Redlands purgatory if you added those 11 miles in on your own...:whistling:

I did one about 3 years ago on my CX bike with canti's, 33mm file treads and got my ass handed to me.
Tried the 60 mile and read the fast group should be like 8 mph avg or something. I said, "I can do that!"
Thought about starting with the earlier group but didn't get there in time.
Started with the fast group and got dropped faster than a bad habit.
Struggled a lot and could not climb so well with my CX gearing. Got lost a couple of times. Dropped a crank arm at one point.( Blame my crappy mechanic, me)
Skipped a bit of a loop to shave some miles.
Got to the the SA river section and got lost. Spent over an hour riding through the old military base out there. Had to hop some fences.
Passed by Hangar 24 and gave serious thought to stopping.
Pressed on and eventually got to someone's backyard. One of the last ones to get food and had a couple of beers.
Hope to make it back, but St Paddy's Day might be tough.

For those of you worrying about the Imperial century... things are looking up!

We just need to get that extra 42 ft. of elevation so there won't be any complaints!!!

Will make sure the water is fresh... just for her!!! Is this the sort of thing you could use the tandem on? Nobody has done the ride on one yet (My wife and I rode the first bit of the first one on one, but just a mile or two).

CX is definitely the best way to roll... I'd love to see some tandems on the route though. Nothing they wouldn't be able to do!
