Registration opens January 3, 2018, at 6 pm our time. I can't believe I'm actually considering this again.

The race (ride for me, at most) happens July 14, 2018. This is basically two humongous climbs, at altitude. The start is a couple hundred feet higher than Santiago Peak. The finish is at 10,400 feet.

I'm on the fence, leaning toward signing up. Not because I think I can be competitive in the standings, but because it has kicked my wimpy a$$ twice before.

I will probably regret this.

And now my brother has reminded me that the Death Ride (in Markleeville, CA, just south of Lake Tahoe) is also on July 14. Registration is now open for that one. It's only 129 miles and 15,000 feet of gain....

Yeah, pretty much. Crusher is better, but not that much better.

Last time I was out there the fleabag motel owners had gotten wise. Rates were ridiculous then; I can omly imagine what they are now.

This will no longer be something the average Joe will be able to get in on. Pity.

I have no sympathy for someone who feels they need to pay money to ride a route you can ride for free on your own any day of the year. There are many better routes out there that are more/mostly/all singletrack, and more importantly, free.
