Ride Name: Veterans Day Ride 2017
    When: Friday, November 10th
    Time: 10:00 am
    Where: Cooks Corner
    Ride Description or Details:
The annual Veterans Day ride and flag change, but a day early. For many years, great riders with big hearts and souls gather to thank those who have served in our armed services. The Flag at the Luge is a focal point in out history and mountain bike heritage. It's changed twice a year...Memorial Day and Veterans Day. This year the official Veterans Day is Saturday 11/11. Some have Friday off to honor our men and women who have served. If you have the day off, use it, not just for you, but to honor others.

Meet at Cooks 10:00am with flag change at 11:00.

You can always start at Whiting and meet up along the way.

If there are not enough RSVP or someone would rather lead the ride on Saturday, please post it up and I'll remove this one.

For those wanting to donate $ for a new flag, contact me direct thru FB PM.

    Thank your for thanking others.

*options include Old Camp or a 2nd Luge loop.

Very cool. Maybe I will drag my brother along, although he hates sustained climbing far more than I do.

Another option for those who wish for a longer ride is to start earlier and go through Whiting. Given that it'll be a large group, and the all of the climbing is up front, I think it would be safe to say it'll take an hour or more for the whole group to get to the flag.

@xhuskr are you organizing the flag change as well? If so, could you provide a target time for the flag ceremony? That way, those who want to exercise different options can time it out to be at the flag at say 11:00 or 11:30.

@herzalot it is a flag changing ride. Whiting is always an option as that has been the usual route in the past. I'll update the page. Flag change time listed at 11:00 but will change to 11:15 ish.

I havent been out to the Luge in years. I don't have Friday off, though...somehow I've never had Veterans Day as a holiday.

If this ends up on Saturday I'll definitely try to make it.

    Thanks Kevin @xhuskr!

Just so's you know, Jon Kearley and I will be on the STT again Saturday morning for more drainage work. We might have some other riders helping as well. We'll be working the first few miles from the Modjeska gate, basically from the gate to the @ 2.3 mile point.

Thanks for taking care of the flag, and maybe we'll see you out there!

This is the most worthwhile ride invite offered here in a long time! Thanks for taking care of this flag and to all you Veterans, which I'm assuming includes you xhuskr, for your sacrifice and service to our country. Wish I could go on this ride but I've got the day off and we're going camping. You should send the pics taken to every NFL team!

I sincerely doubt the NFL players are protesting veterans. I am guessing it has more to do with their perception of the current administration’s attitude towards ethnic minorities.

Just found out that my wife has a doctor’s appointment at 9:00 today, and since my daughter has the day off, I will need to stay with her. She’s a little too young for a W-L-W loop.

Kaapernic started the anthem protest months before Trump was elected. The protests were re-energized when Trump called the protesting NFL players (which had declined to 3 or 4) SOB's in a speech. Regardless of why they protest, the anthem is not an acceptable occasion for that protest. They should choose a more effective method to protest which does not have the result of offending military veterans.
