We can meet at the riverside park in Kernville. You would be the one with the long drive so whenever you want to meet is fine. No problem bringing more people although the shuttle is a lot simpler if we keep it 6 or below. More riders need to know about this trail so it can get some traffic. This is a good sized, remote, technical ride so keep that in mind.

Well ALRIGHTY THEN...
Meet you at the Park at 8:30am...
EDIT: Unless jfsh has folks going I'm not aware of, anyone (no more than 3) who likes technical goodness can join us. UPSed has committed...
Only three....3 is the number and the number is 3, 3 means two more and 5 is right out! That's 2 + 1 more, but not 3 + 1 cuz that makes 4.

It takes 1 hour 45 minutes from Lebec to Kernville...
So 6:45 sharp at the Flying Jfsh in Lebec work for you?

Maybe? It's about 2.5hr drive for me, so I need to make sure the drive to ride ratio is correct. What trails are we doing? Elevation & mileage? I assume this is a shuttle & what is the fee?

Re: Kernville Ride this Saturday 3 spots available...

Trail is Classified and the answers are unknown. jfsh puts nothing but class act Epics together. The trail name is Tobias.
At this time, that's all I can tell you.
It's a self Shuttle, so I think the shuttle costs a few beers at the Kernville Brewery or maybe a couple of bucks afterwards when we get grub.
If you love the fun sketchy Technical stuff that jfsh typically does...your gonna love this!
Unless jfsh puts out more info, this is all I got brothah!

Oh, ...and you get to see, ME!
(If what he has is not enough, I guarantee I will make it worth your while, we will add "Just Outstanding" and or "The Cannel Plunge", but I suspect Tobias will be all we need...)

I can pick up anyone coming from the south. We usually carpool from the sports complex in Castaic. Oh and I have been known to turn down gas money but never food or beer!

Re: Kernville Ride this Saturday 3 spots available...

This trail is not classified at all. Most of it is on the maps. What is new about it is it was all overgrown and unridable a few years ago. It is now good to go although still thin and raw in a few places. There are some turns that are easy to miss so right now you still need to go with someone who knows the route.

Here are some rough stats. (I don't carry a GPS around) Point to point, 23 miles, around 2500-3000' of climbing, around 5000-5500' of decent, 4-6 hours ride time. The ride starts with a 1500' 8 mile climb, then some xc at elevation, then a few miles of xc fire road, then a decent from 7500' to 3500' in 5 or 6 miles. We start at Alta Sierra summit and end at McNally's restaurant. Here is a decent description of the trail http://www.kernriversierra.com/bike/tobias.html.

I will leave my truck at the end of the trail in the morning and ride my moto back to Kernville while you guys are driving up. (That is why 6 or less works well.). We will need to load up whoever we have and head up to the summit. After the ride we just need to retrieve the cars from the summit, about a 20 minute drive.

This trail is tough but not as physically demanding as Cedar Canyon. The downhill is raw and the trail is thin. If you have ridden the Cannell Plunge and would like something harder than you are in the ballpark. I would recommend a long sleeve jersey as protection from the brush. Feel free to shoot me any other questions.

It'll be a hot one up there. But having ridden just the Frog Meadow section before; I'm curious to see the rest.

Count me in. Ed, I'll plan to ride with you from Castaic. I'll shoot you my number soon.

I don't know where Google gets its weather info from but that forecast is not even close. It never gets hot up there. Low 80s tops. It will only get hot at the end of the ride as we drop down to the river.

Here is some video we shot of Tobias in the Fall of 2013. The dirt won't be this good but you get the idea.

I would have to cancel my week in Yosemite with the family to make this, anyone know a good divorce attorney? I just know this ride will be worth it. OK, just kidding about that, but dang I'm bummed to miss this ride. I can only hope the opportunity comes up again(soon). Have a incredible day out there gents.

Oh the crushing guilt! I know canceling the barbecue is the right thing to do, but since no good divorce attorney was mentioned, I'll have to miss another RARE opportunity of sweet goodness :( . Worst part is the trail was just cut and is growing right now, I may not get another chance.

Oh it gets VERY hot up there sometimes. My last trip up there it was 100+ and it was humid when we got to Kern. Very uncomfortable. Nice at the top of the mountain but just disgusting at the bottom.

Dang, i wish I could go.
