Since I was putting Stan's in my front tire, I figure this is bike related.

Our 14-month old, 95# Bernese Mountain Dog was feeling frisky last night and tried to imitate some crazy, off-camber, MTB jump action and failed miserably.

She managed to knock a large, porcelain bowl to the ground and it immediately shattered into razor sharp, watermelon shaped shards. I saw a little blood, but she never yelped or whined. She still was ready to run around. I finally got her calm and tried to see if she cut her pads. Uh oh, she had a 4" - 5" slice from below her knee right into the top of her paw. A super clean cut deep enough to expose tendons and bone.

I coaxed her inside for some better light and made the easy decision to head to the nighttime ER. Of course, our floor is very light stone and bringing her in brought gobs of blood along. It looked like a damn murder scene.

Grabbed a few essentials and I got my son to help lift her into my F-350. No need, she jumped right in ??? Man, I'd be writhing around with a cut like that.

Final stats - 8 internal and 20 external stitches (ligaments were fine) for a 12cm (4.7") gash. We never noticed but the surgeon found a 1" cut on her front leg too. This one was pretty shallow.

Now for the challenge - keeping a large, strong & very active dog calm......and she doesn't know how to do Bonsai

    Excuse my wife's camera skills...

Aww, dang, poor baby. Hope y'all get through the healing (and that annoying dressing) smoothly. She is adorable, btw :inlove:

Accidents and stuff happen to our little friends – no avoiding. Being a solid owner, like you are, is all we can do. Bravo to you for fulfilling the commitment and showing others what it means.

I only "liked" it because I like dogs, not liking that the poor girl got hurt. My aunt used to breed/show Bernies up in Oregon, such sweet dogs. I would pet the hell out of that dog, I want to pet all the dogs.

Post injury update - stitches getting removed today. She has been a much better patient than I would be. All is well.

Thanks for the update, looks great! Props to the seamster, and to Ms. 95 for leaving that work alone.

When to the orthopedic specialist yesterday for Dog (Tristan, we call him "Dog"). 100 pound Mastiff/pit blew out his CCL (puppy ACL). The bill is, well, I'll be working a lot of OT for a while. 3 months of recovery time is also going to make life hell. I'll be doing a lot of time on the trainer at home and less play time. Surgery scheduled for Thursday.
