Did some minor truing of rear wheel using seths zip tie method.

Put on some Oury lock on grips. White.

Picked up a pair of the new kona wah wah 2's, but having a hard time getting the old peddles off. Gotta pick up some penetrating oil I guess.

Front brake is feeling a bit spongy, a bleed is probably in order..

On the weekend ride, I noticed that Mikie and Tom had adjustable bottle cages on their bikes. I needed something like this to be able to use a lager volume bottle for my Easter Egg. For whatever reason, the cage mount bolt holes are located too far forward on the frame of my Remedy, forcing me to use a small volume bottle. So I shopped around. I wasn't concerned with price, I was looking for a cage that had the longest slots for the most fore/aft adjustability. I found a resin cage by Zefal called "WIIZ side mount" and it is cheap. Hopefully, it does what I need it to do and hopefully, it can take the bouncing abuse my Easter Egg likes to experience.

Side mount? Bottle ejector extraordinaire. The best ones out there are the ones (if you want cheap, go resin) that fully envelop the bottle circumference except maybe a couple millimeters, and have the retention thingamajig for the top of the bottle.

You'll never lose a bottle out of one of these. Even if you crash. :whistling:

Because of the configuration of the front triangle and where the cage fits due to the rear suspension (you couldn't possibly understand or picture this because you are a hard tail guy:rolleyes:), the bottle can only be moved in and out from the side. It's a TIGHT FIT.

At less than ten bucks, it's hardly an investment. So if it don't work, I will just throw it away.

Jennifer and I both have to use side cages. Her small frame will only accept a small bottle. Mine is a Specialized and hers is from Lezyne.

I had a very good buddy buy me a Water Bottle Cage for the same purpose. It actually is working great! Called a Zee Cage.
I found that the logo buffed off extremely easy much to my delight! :whistling:

Careful... You probably agreed to display the logo prominently. After all, you don't actually own the cage. You have a limited license to use the cage unmodified for such time as Specialized deems you worthy. :p

As far as my bike... I just bought two cheap stainless cages from Jensons for the Highball. They seem pretty snug, but we shall see. I like steel, because I can bend it back into shape when it gets wonky. Until it breaks. :whistling: I know, I know... Steel would look funny on your plastic bikes.

I also swapped out the 2.35 Ardent Race on the front of the Chameleon, and put on a Racing Ralph. Temporary solution until I buy some tires... Both of my riding partners on Saturday's death march recommended the Maxxis Forekaster, so I'll probably give it a try. I might move the 2.35 Ardent Race to the rear... Although I still want to try the Bontrager XR3. Decisions, decisions.

And the Highball will be getting a new Rekon on the rear in 2.2 before Vision Quest. After my Conti disaster when @Mikie came to town, I'd rather get it off the bike before I have to count on it for something like VQ.

Steel cages are great on any bike! They don't mark up your bottles, either!

I'm partial to the King Cage Iris model. Currently on sale @ Tree Fort If you don't need a side-loader for access, give one a try!

I like the Specialized side loaders. I started running those when I rode rigid. Definitely holds the bottles.

Threw my Wolf Tooth 30t oval back on. Other than being lazy I'm not sure why I had on a 28t.20180213_134426-2016x1512.jpg

I just couldn’t embrace the magenta....

There is a slight reveal of the magenta as the black were not an exact perfect fit.

That certainly gives the bike a different look.

Most definately distinguishable from all the other Chameleons out there now. Even in the dark!

Looks great – nice upgrade!

I'm forever baffled by SC color combos. The base colors of the bikes are fine, but the highlight colors? No professional designer or person with knowledge of color theory would ever pair, say, mint and orange. Or muted green and purple. In visual communications, those combos are what we call fukking ugly. I don't get too hung up on bike aesthetics, but Santa Cruz has stood head and shoulders above the competition when it comes to hideous color combos in past bikes. A glance at its site shows they are pulling back from the visual chaos by using more neutral colors for the highlights.

It goes in cycles with SC. Back in the day they offered up 8 standard colors, plus 1 or 2 seasonal color options.

Now it is 2 standard colors. Most of them really aren’t that bad. I didn’t like the yellow with teal logos that Suz has on her TB....but it’s growing on me.

It makes them stand out. All blacked out bikes all look the same.

I dunno - the crap coming out of Temecula via Taiwan may be taking the new title in horrific color combinations. They too have tolerable base colors like gray and black, but if you want a color, your only choice is garish.

Giant also has a side cage. Used this on the small Trance. Snug fit, never lost a bottle. In-expensive plastic and adjustable mount. Not Specialized.
