Feeling like my brain is exploding looking at different possible parts combos for the new Kona. :bang::bang::eek:

But, on a positive note, the Cowchipper II bars showed up this evening. It's starting to look like a bicycle!!:thumbsup:

Well, they are the world's top selling chain - by a large margin, so I think the secret's out.

Are there chains - ones that don't break when you look at them - other than KMC? :Roflmao

Not bikes, but the bits of aluminum that carry them! I swapped trays from one vehicle to the other, moving the better one to my car as I need to carry three bikes regularly. Put the junky one on my wife's as it doesn't get used as much.

Very soon when HS season starts, I'll need to carry four (mine + three kids)... will probably need to swap vehicles at that point where I will then reverse this process!

Note To Self: When adjusting Saddle Height Make sure the collar is seated firmly back down against the Seat Tube. I think when I raised my saddle a bit last time I grabbed the saddle and other hand around the collar area an maybe lifted it a bit...not good. Another thing for me to double check. Think it was adding to some creaking...

I decided to change worn tires on my daughter's bike today. It's a 2017 Intense Tracer Enduro model. Removing the tires I discovered the rims were prepped with tape for tubeless ready. What the heck. I had intended on going tubeless and what better time. I had the syringe and a quart of Stans. All done with 2 oz. in each tire. I hope to go out in the garage tomorrow and find air in the Bontrager XR4 -780 gram tires.

KS' warranty/repairs center is right there in da OC. Might be worth sending it in (or dropping it off?) for a repair and having it on standby.

Picked up a wheelset for the new Kona frame...Mavic Ksyrium Pro Allroad disc. 1620 grams for the set. The really cool part is that they're true tubeless. Sealed rim. No tape, no muss, no fuss.

They're normally $1K, but on sale at Jenson USA for $700. Couldn't pass it up.

I had to add a small section of tape to my 29er wheels and refresh the sealant. There was not enough in there to seal up the big nail that I picked up yesterday on the wash. The nail also punctured the tape right at a spoke hole.

I also got around to setting up the stock 27.5 plus wheels tubeless. Weighed the tubes and they are 385 grams each. I should definitely notice the weight savings.

DT SWISS 240 REAR HUB QUESTION:

    1) In switching from an XD driver to a Shimano free hub, does the free hub itself play a part in the star ratchet system other than simply being compatible with the hub design?

I may be wrong, but I think carrying the heavy wheels so often made me a little stronger when I switched to the lighter setup for Saturday's death march. The Highball felt like nothing all day... Maybe I need to drag a tractor tire up Harding. :p

As far as what I did to my bike... I returned the girlie saddle to the Chameleon, along with the underseat bag, Garmin mount, bell, etc... She is ready to rock and roll. I also cleaned both bikes pretty well, and got all of the "Main Divide dry cement" out of the Highball's drive train. I have another funny saddle on order, so no more swapping back and forth in the near future.

Not sure what you mean... I haven't switched free hubs on the 240s on the Highball, but I have on the 350s. Snap off, snap on... Done.

Don't ask me to compare that with the Novatec hubs on the stock Chameleon wheels.

Well the wheels were 3.5 lbs heavier with the tubes. This still makes them heavier than my crest but more manageable.

It was a big day in the garage....the ECMD had been neglected for a while. Probably because of the time change, and the big'r rides I have been putting in on the weekends.

But it had a flat. Yes, it is tubed. The rims are not Tubeless Ready, and I'm not sure I trust ghetto tubeless with that much weight on them, especially as hard as I am on the bike. So I pulled the tire off, and found a needle in the sidewall. What I also found out was that the rim was drilled for Schrader valves. With the Presta valves in there, there was a bit too much movement.

    So I installed these:

I know what you are all thinking.....big job, must have taken most of the afternoon.

After our test run yesterday...all was good.

Remember all the chatter about the 18/36/54 ratchets for DT hubs?
So, on a recent rocky singletrack adventure, my DT 350 hub's lack of engagement was quite noticeable. Comes stock with an 18 tooth ratchet, 20° engagement.
I just ordered the 54 tooth/6.6° engagement upgrade so now my 350 will be better than my 240.
But who cares if it works better?
    It's gonna sound so cool!
