Well, guess that eliminates a grip shifter for the front derailleur on your new bike.... Healing vibes, and don't do that no more!

There's only one way to look at this: If you're not occasionally crashing, then you are not riding hard enough. Sustaining injuries while biking is admirable.

Heal up, rest up, and give your significant other some puppy eyes.:D:inlove:

Ironically, I crashed in the first hour. Road the rest of the ride thinking I sprained my wrist. When I got home is when the pain poured on. It wasn't until I was at Kaiser trying to roll my wrist around for the X-ray table that I knew I was in serious trouble and pain...

Thanks all for all the well wishing...... brothahood.

Ok Ok Ok - first - DAMMMIT! I'm very sorry to hear about your injuries, @Mikie  :( Surgery, rehab and such are no fun. Second - I think we can all relate to crashing badly on a regularly-ridden and not particularly difficult trail (although it sounds like you were in a rocky spot). My worst crash to date was on a moderately easy trail I ride frequently. And third - and most importantly - I too am impressed that you are going to parlay a broken helmet into a new bike. :)

Sorry to hear that you broke your wrist, Mikie. Wishing you a complete and speedy recovery.

Unfortunately, crashes are practically an integral part of mountain biking. My hope regarding them is that they will be few, far-between and minor--but, as we all know, this isn't always the case.

On the bright side, you'll be loving it once you're all healed up with a new kick-ass bike.

Dam, ouch. Getting out while your warm is good, continuing on maybe not so. I am old now so I took crashing off my bucket list, maybe it is time you do the same, maybe.

So you'd rather have tripped down the stairs to sustain such an injury?

Now, do you get my drift? :whistling:

The drift is if you crash, you did something wrong...the idea is to get to the end of the ride with much stoke and zero errors. We don't always achieve that, but that is the goal.

Hehe, he did do something wrong. He dented his helmet!!!!!!!!!!! Now look what he has to do...laborious reading of reviews, contemplating builds, sourcing parts, wrenching... Not the easy path!

So now @Mikie can put some distance on me in the post count category. This one makes me only 18 behind him, but I would expect some right-handed wizardry to put him back firmly in control of his little mtb family fun farm that he created. Go Mikie go!

And I am puzzled by Mark's assertion that the goal is not to crash. I think he's right, but I also think that riding without crashing means zero risks are being taken - which may not be the goal of mtb riding. I also think that assertion is triply amusing coming from a guy whose moniker is @Runs with Scissors !!!

To crash or not to crash... Interesting philosophical counter-points.

One great thing about most mountain sports is their adjustability to suit. Never wanna hit the ground? Not too hard to accomplish with some skills and discretion. Or pad up, get rad and expect to take soil samples. All great.

Most often it's just nonchalance that bites – like what Mikie did. I did the same damn thing a couple weeks ago, with a better outcome. It felt really stupid to be falling through a section that I ride every time. When the going is tough/scary, you focus and generally stay out of trouble. Low- or no-speed crashes? Way too easy to screw it up!!!

You've still got one good arm so no excuse for not keeping up with the vacuuming, dusting, laundry ...

Dude that sucks. Word of advice, be methodical on your recovery. I broke my wrist pretty bad at age 19 and i rushed the recovery phase and got back on my dirt bike and instantly tweaked it again... nearly two decades later and it's still not right.

Heal up, make the PT work your hobby for a bit, and come back stronger then ever.

Man! I really appreciate you guys, you are such givers........!
I am indeed looking for some Dumazz that goes out and buys a brand spanking new Black 2017 Large Yeti SB5.5 Turq Carbon thinking it pedals itself up the climbs, then sweep it up from them since they already rolled it off the lot.

@Voodoo Tom is the King of finding those dealz...

I greatly appreciate you guys both offering to ride the new ride when found! That what friends are for...:whistling:
