I noticed that we don't have a VQ dedicated thread on IMTBtrails, So I'm starting one (If I missed it please delete this one).

Did the open spots sell out (I cant imagine asking this question two years ago)?
I'm registered for CC. Who else can I expect to see at the starting line? VQ?
I'm not filling the same excitement as a past spring event.
My prep is going terribly. At this point I just want to finish it (without any performance goals).

It looks like a lot of people took the refunds last year when offered.

A lot of riders have dropped from VQ down to CC.

Registration still looks like it is open, so spots are still available.

I'm not riding the event....but I may be out there as a sweep....not sure just yet.

I foresee a lot of DNF's this year. I also foresee a lot of DNS's.

The Fire Closure has definitely been rough on everyone....however, it cannot be used as an excuse for not getting your training in.

In for Counting Coupe. Really didn't expect to get in, so will see how it goes. Since the last one, I'm a stronger rider overall, but not as well trained for distance.

I was registered, had hoped to do it so I didn't take the refund when offered, but a work conflict will keep that from happening. I'll be one of the DNSs.

I'll be out there riding....but no the event. Looks like I pulled the correct straw. I get to sweep Maple Spring over the Peak and down HJ to the finish. It's always a fun time. If you see me catching up to you....pedal faster, cause you may be in trouble.

A friend of mine (DJ) registered for the event (CC) 2 years ago, and a few months a go decided he is going to do the MS150 without realizing it is on the same weekend. After raising ton of money for the MS ride he can't back off doing it, so he is looking for someone who is looking to ride Counting Coup in his place.
(Although I haven't ask him) I'm sure he would barter the entry fee for a donation for his MS ride.

If interested please send a PM.

No can do. No selling, transfering or deferring of spots for VQ/CC.

They will have to show ID the morning of the event to get his/her wristband.

Any openings for the VQ? It didn't look like it when I went to the page. Did I go to wrong page? Not sure what is up for that weekend (from wifey perspective), but would be a cool Saturday.

I will be there at the start line and hopefully at the finish. This will be my 5th vq and yea horsethief sucks! I'm not expecting my best finish but expect something around the mid 7's.

This event is another excuse to camp at O'Neil park, have my parents camping on one side and my in laws on the other. If you see me at the bar at Rose canyon in the afternoon, yes I'll have another drink!

I'm happy to see a little rain this morning. The weather report is not to good for Saturday, it's going to be a warm one. The most I can hope for now is some of the loose stuff to be packed down.

Sounds like perfect weather for the bugs to be out in force.

Could also be a little breezy out there.

Is there a water station @ 4 corners?
I remember stopping there for water in 2014 on the way to the peak.

I'm trying to figure out how many water bottles would I need.
Two bottles will be fine from Blackstar to Maple Spring (2.5-3 hrs).
I might need a third one to finish up (3.5-4 hrs).
If they have water on 4 corners, I'll ride with two only. If they don't I'll add a 3rd (empty) to the list.
Does anybody have an item list to share?

Aid Station 1 at bottom of Motorway
Aid Station 2 at bottom Holy Jim

Please make sure to plan accordingly.

Have fun.....Remember, the 11:30 cutoff at 4 Corners is the only really important number for the CC peeps.

I heard something about the fact that we were not supposed to be riding it for these last several years it WAS in the event. Mixed feelings for me. I think it's challenging and fun, but I'm usually pretty tired at that point and I haven't seen it since VQ of 2014, so part of me is a little relieved:)

Not sure about the legality, but...

It's signed at the bottom, and the forest service recently installed the "5" mile marker, which is a continuation of the mile markers on the lower Holy Jim trail. It was in really rough shape the last time I was on it in July.

Warrior memeber Mike Caffrey went up there 2 Saturdays in a row and cleaned it up. He said it was in pretty good shape now.

Not going to totally miss it. It's where I went over the bars last time loosing about 10 minutes.

I'm pretty sure it's legal. If memory serves, my brother and his Sierra Club trail building group put it in as a shortcut to the Coldwater Trail from Lower Holy Jim/Main Divide. They worked on trails all over the Santa Ana's in the days before mountain bikes, and did everything with permits, etc. Since then the Warriors have maintained and partially rerouted it.

Another CC is in the book.
This one 32 minutes faster than 2014.
I can't explain it other then my overall riding ability has improved (my fitness level is low IMO)
