Thought I would share this route we did last month. I always wanted to ride over to the beach from this side of the hill on back roads and trails. Quite a bit of pavement, so bike choice is tough. I had a sketchy ride down Trabuco Trail on my full rigid while my buddy may have been suffering more on the long road stretches on his full suspension. We decided to finish going up coast to crest trail and inland rail trail to Belching Beaver Brewing rather than riding pavement all the way home. The San Elijo hike n bike site sucks bad FYI. If I did it again I would probably poach a camp spot on the beach near San Onofre. But overall it was fun and I would do it again.

I’m told sealant degrades tubes much faster than it does tires. Did your buddy experience this? I recently added Stan’s sealant into the tubes of my commuter and am watching them closely for failure. So far so good 2 weeks in and 1 whole ride to Target.

I think he probably ditched the tire after we got back since the integrity was questionable. We have so many goatheads here you just have to have tires setup tubeless w sealant.

I do this with my non MTB bikes, and have had no problems. The valve will often become atherosclerotic over time though.

Great... Now you tell me. I filled the kid's college commuter tubes with Orange sealant! Of course, in Oregon, I probably have to worry more about it freezing in the bottom of the tire. :p

@CarlS - I loved this route when it popped up on Strava. Thanks for sharing the pictures and write-up!
