Tailwind users: If one scoop = 100 calories, what is the best hourly intake for you?
Lets say a four hour ride, how many scoops would you use (not considering ratio of water).
Or are there other variables like pace, grade, etc that throws this simple question out the door?

And how soon after the ride can I start in on the cheeseburgers and beer?

It is based on your body processing 250-300 calories an hour. So 2-2.5 scoops an hour is recomended.....anymore it is just wasted.

For me I use 100 oz. and add 8 scoops. I figure 2 scoops per 25oz. I know @Voodoo Tom uses quite a bit less than this. Often that 4 hours turns into 5 and 6 hours. I also carry a water bottle with pure water just cuzz.

Got to be honest, a lot of times I'm not even hungry after the ride. But Dr. Watson prescribes you can grind burgers immediately afterwards. But you got to stay out of the pool for at least 20 minutes after the burger...

Thanks J. Do you start off with it right away, or digest whatever you ate for breakfast first and start in on it a little later?

I am shocked and appalled that none of you has asked me for my riding nutrition tips.

You're thinking..."How does he manage to cramp so regularly? I want THAT regimen!"

So, since you asked, - Coffee - no breakfast (I ate too much the night before). Bottle of Skratch on the way to the trailhead. Water during the ride, then a Clif bar half way through. Let's not forget the daily 5 mg of Coumadin!

The key is to never exceed 2400' of climbing!

    Pssst - @Mikie - I think you need to drop the "s." It's Tailwind.

Hey! Did you know that Tailwind has gotten me out of several speeding tickets?

    "Pssst - @Mikie - I think you need to drop the "s." It's Tailwind." - @herzalot
Tailwinds is so powerful it has to be written "plural"... even if it is singular

@rossage consumes other performance enhancing nutrition. Keeps him safe! It would be interesting to see what would happen if ya'll drank some of his "cool-aid" prior to a technical ride.

So, I'm in the kitchen trying to whip up a "Tailwind dog" with pickle relish and mustard snack for @scan so he can ease into the TW family, while eagerly awaiting @BonsaiNut's TW-powered Ride Report and a :thumbsup:/:thumbsdown: review, remembering that I got a @Cornholio 60-mile charge out of a double chili cheeseburger, fries and a large Root Beer on a roadie tour west of Sacramento once.

Meanwhile, I'm trying to figure out how to suck a piece of apple pie out of my Camelbak bladder. (I still think I like cherry better.)

For moderate exertion over 2 hours, I've been going with 1 scoop of Tailwinds to 10oz of water, I'm a salty sweater and I never cramp if I keep this ratio. But on hotter or longer days, I might add an extra scoop to the bladder or one of my two bottles on the bike. But the real question, is what is everyone's preferred flavor? I like Mandarin Orange the best but will mix 2:1 Orange and Berry to increase the sweet taste of it.

Oh, and I got my kids hooked on Tailwinds too, it really helped my 9 year old at soccer, running for almost an hour straight does not mesh well with juice boxes and some random chilled fruit.
