Literally watching M*A*S*H this afternoon. The episode where he had the photographer fallowing him around camp.

 

Aahhhh....the character name in full did not ring a bell. Now I see. Bahstan must find another place to paahk its caahs.

 

I'm glad I didn't say R.I.P. Oberoth.

 

I am somewhat ambivalent about M*A*S*H...although I recognize its levity, it had a decidedly anti-military bent and excoriated the average joe. Most would think it was lambasting the upper brass and political masters for the conduct of the police action, but I beg to differ - it portrayed the grunt as a misguided tool of the chattering class.

Having the background I have, I was underwhelmed by it. But I recognize the ability of the actors in the show and of course am not thrilled that they're dying off.

 

That would have gone over my head completely...never heard of it.

Wasn't he most widely known for his role on "Better Off Dead?"

I enjoyed the show, but didn't really get to understand its political bent until long after it left the airwaves. Not only was it decidedly negative in the ways you describe, it brought us the first SNAG - Alan Alda. By today's standards, Hawkeye Pierce is a pig who would be indicted in the #metoo movement, but back then, he was every woman's version of a properly adjusted metrosexual male.

 

I used to watch it a LOT in high school. Seemed like it reruns were always on. Watching it today, the acting was so stilted it hurt, especially in the first few seasons.

 

I saw "Stargate" the movie. It was pretty good as space opera goes. I never saw the TV version since I watch maybe an hour of TV a week.
