more often. Almost lost my left side crank arm and pedal this morning. Darned retaining nut unscrewed itself nearly 90% off the BB spindle. Just felt a little wonky wobble and fortunately stopped and found the problem. Knocked the crank back on a bit with my foot and finger tightened the nut enough to mostly one-leg pedal back home.

Oh yeah! A square taper spindle will do that over time.
We see that at the shop quite often. Thats why we keep left crankarms in stock.
Sometime we get one that someone dropped a weld on...:bang:
    Don't do that.

Splined, not squared tapered but same difference. Just checked my multi-tool and found it has the short fat allen head that would have worked to tighten it back up if I'd thought more about it. Nearly had made it home so it was not too bad. Glad I wasn't standing on it into a hard turn earlier; might have been interesting.
