I went from a 90's XC Bike to a 2012 All Mountain. The wider bars freaked me out at first. Now would never go back. Good call on holding off.

 

T-minus 84 hours and 47 minutes until...TaCoTuEsDaY!

 

800mm Niner bars on the hardtail... It does take some getting used to, like Luis says, but I couldn't go back to narrow bars.

 

I might be willing to join you for this... I wouldn't want to do anything bigger on the FS, and this sounds good. You might have to wait for me, though! I have no idea how I'll do on a big climb ride with that bike. It's been a long time...

It looks like a little over 2 hours from taco plaza to Main Divide at a socialish pace...


And no, I think it would be a lot longer to hit San Juan from Coal Canyon...

My plan is to roll at 5:00 from the Taco Plaza. Based on previous rides, I am about 4:20 to the top of LHJ.

So I would guestimate at about 9: 30 at the top of LHJ/Main Divide.

Confirmed. Cannel ride sunday, just booked my shuttle with MRA. There's still room, don't know how much. If anyone care to join.

0700 Roll time isn't bad, looking back at the last time I did Taco Plaza to the top of LHJ it was 2.5hr. I'll probably be ready to go a bit earlier than that if we want to buffer a bit more @Faust29

I'll have my FS this time rather than bitching about being on my hardtail I can look forward to bombing down MD from Trabuco to Blue Jay, rather than pussy footing it like I did previously.

Is there any Poison Oak I need to worry about on that route? (San Juan area? Or Holy Jim?)

 

Earlier is fine by me... I don't mind a break at the top of HJ if we get there before J. 6:30? That gives us plenty of time to take it easy getting up there.

Oh man. Two rides on a FS and I'm already talking about taking it easy on the climbs. It's like a disease.

 

Oak is a little thick at the bottom of HJ, and a few places above Cocktail Rock.

 

It'll be fun watching you try to spin the 22/36 up the climbs.

 

I took the front derailleur off... The rings are still there, and I've just been using the middle 33 ring... I'll get a single ring for the front eventually. Hasn't bounced off yet, but I may have a slightly larger cog on the back than 36.

I really do appreciate the invite but I think I'll stick with a climb I know. At least until I know I'm back to 100%.

Climbing Holy Jim and those switchbacks just ain't pushing my buttons.

Not with a low gear of 22 x 42! I may be able to travel backwards with that combo!

 

Looking for Sunday and Monday rides. Singletrack is good.

 

I've got about 6.5 miles of singletrack...but it's only 1/8th of the ride. The rest is asphalt.

 

Gonna do the @Maddog version of 5 Deer Trail at 9:30 tomorrow.

 

Gonna do Strawberry Peak with the Dante.
