    Thx all.

He's been dirtbagging in the Subie for a year and a half. All of his friends' vans break down all of the time. The Subie - never.

BUT, it is getting old and now that he is working a lot, he needs an easier way to live.

He has plenty of places to park the trailer. Tons of places to park it up there.

As the local wound care specialist - he meets lots of locals - as he is very good at what he does - and has a bit of personality - gets plenty of offers for private property parking as well.

The Subie can tow 2400 pounds. These trailers are 1800-2200.

    He is still searching.

If I had Ross' van, it would be converted to a cycling/fishing van. Parts trays inside down one side for bike stuff, a floor stand that would hold 3 or 4 bikes, and then parts trays inside down the other side for fishing garb. Rod racks on the ceiling to holding several rods up and out of the way. Oh yeah, da kind!

    Warning: DERAIL ahead!

LOL, obviously you are not a fisherman.

Here's a test for you. Let's see if you can reword the sentence below so that anyone could understand it:

"My bud and I were getting doubles one after the other on the twisters that were lickin' the duck full speed on the goofy grind."

    Simple:
My friend and I were hitting double jumps (a jump with a defined take off and separate landing zone, with a void in between) in a series.
We also hit the hip jumps (which are jumps requiring a mid-air turn of roughly 90° - or a "twist").
"Lickin' the duck" clearly refers to taking a drink from a filthy water bottle - "full speed" means without stopping to rest. "On the goofy grind" is obviously referring to having consumed some coffee before the jump session that was derived from beans that were ground with a blade grinder rather than a burr grinder.

    Duh!

Does anyone have a travel trailer for Tim's son?

Geez guys? Too late! Life change!

Last week the off-site management team (they were performing a pre-state audit inspection) brought him into the conference room at the facility where he is working and said,

"Here's the deal: we know that you live in your car; we also know that you moved up here to ski, climb and do alpine adventures and work just a little bit; but we really dig your style, and we have an offer for you. If you could please live in a house or apartment, or even a residence hotel, we would like you to run the medical staff at this facility (official position title "Director of Nursing") until the end of the year. Then we would like to send you around the country (and to Europe) to review our management teams at our other facilities for a year or so. Then, we would like you to come to our corporate office (in San Diego) and see where we go from there."

Then, after he accepts the offer, (and Mom and Dad book him a hotel for a few weeks before he has time to find an apartment or room) he gets a ping from SAR and within a half hour is being lowered onto a 45 degree talus field at 13,000 feet in the fading sunlight - (solo because of the weight limit of the helo at that altitude and temperature - it was just Joel and the pilot) - triaging a climber with compound fractures, spinal injury and deep cuts - the med bag does not have an IV starter kit to he has to improvise and figure out how to get the monster gauge needle in (with no one to assist except for the climber's buddy who is crying and in shock), gets him triaged, set, and on the backboard, guides him up the line to the Helo, and then is pulled off by a Chinook and taken to the ambulance with the victim to continue to stabilize for the ride to the hospital, stays at the ER for a few hours ... then takes a shower and goes to a dance party in the desert.

My favorite part of the above, is that he called me on the way to the dance party and we talked about his day. He told me how physically demanding it was to go from 3,000 feet to 13,000 feet in five minutes, and have to execute without even really thinking - and that he was able to execute just like he had been trained. I told him: "Joel, enjoy this, your life is basically everything that 15 year old Joel wanted his life to be." Joel: "Well, not completely. I did not shoot any bad guys today." Me: "The night is young."

So, yes, this post was a complete and total excuse for a "Dad Brag." But he won't need a trailer for a bit -but thanks for all of the suggestions and assistance as always.

I was about to chime in with 18 ft is pretty standard where you get a double/queen bed in the Back.
But, yeah; that story totally trumps that.
Your son sounds like a badass.

    It's a SAR thread now.

I know you guys are holding some epic tales. Rossage. And ?

There's a badass copter pilot newsguy in the Phoenix area named Jerry Foster. He was well known for getting involved in stuff that the usual agencies would maybe not. An ace pilot by any estimation. He did pro bono work for kids and would fly in and talk at schools. One time as he took off, something fell from his ship and the kids ran over to find an ounce of weed.

But several years before that, my brother and I were scrambling up the SE flank of Squaw Peak, where I climbed up toward what I thought looked like the most exciting way I could find. After some fun easy fifth class moves, I got sketched out near the top in my running shoes and then had trouble reversing the moves. I popped off, bounced off the rock and fell the rest of the 35' down totally out of control, landing on my back in a bunch of broken shale. No bad injuries ultimately, but caution says don't hike down with a spine injury.

So I'm laying there listening to these paramedics hearing their dispatcher saying nobody wants to do it, but Jerry coming. He drops in and hovers down to touch one skid on a flat rock near me, and one burly medic throws me in the small ship. Rolling into the ambulance he gave my foot a squeeze with wishes to get well. I went on to learn how to rock climb.

So, yea, SAR pros kick ass.
