The first time I heard this song I was standing in the Paulaner tent in Munich drinking a liter beer with my Army buddies... Next thing I know people started going crazy dancing on tables, etc. I had no idea what the song was about except the refrain meant "I want to go back home...". When they finished the song, people started chanting "once more! once more!", and the band played it a second time all the way through...

Every time I think of Oktoberfest I think of this song :) Years later when I could look up the lyrics, I could understand the song is a story about a rural villager who is stuck in Vienna... and all the weird things he sees and how he longs for his home in the hamlet of Furstenfeld :)

And another good one - farm animals singing about how they don't want to have a regular farm day and want to dance around naked :)

Note: if you don't like this music it means you haven't consumed your 1 liter Spaten Oktoberfest beer yet :)

    PROST!

I go to the Old World Oktoberfest in Huntington Beach. Sundays they have wiener dog races and it is a family-friendly environment. Plus they have Spaten on draft... which just means that the cultured world has not yet fallen to the barbarians!

    Topical! TFPU.

In fairness, tho, Bonsai, 1 liter of Spaten Oktoberfest will enhance a wide variety of music, and potentially incite rhythmic twitching thereof.

The last time I was in Munich for Oktoberfest, I met up with the wrong crowd of Germans :) I had forgotten how to drink beer... or perhaps gotten too used to American beer. My wife and I were staying in a castle out in the woods outside of the city, and she doesn't speak German and can't read any of the signs. After we left the Wiesn she kept dropping me off at different gas stations (the only thing open late at night) where I would proceed in my drunken state to try to get instructions from the locals about how to find this castle buried deep in the woods down a dirt lumber road. It was the stereotypical "turn left at the green barn, go two klicks, turn right past the big oak tree and you should see a stone bridge..." Even today she doesn't let me forget it :) We eventually did find the castle but hoo boy did it take a while :)
