    Triple D!
Can you get us a location so I can figure my drive time?
Does this mean it's going to be a zoo of MTB'ers?

    Thanks!

Departure is from my garage at 1112 Quail Ridge, Irvine, CA 92603 at 8am. Suprisingly, very few riders show up for the Irvine Ranch open access day because most people think all the MTB gems are on the other side of Laguna Canyon at Aliso Woods Wilderness Park. They are right 97% of the time! ;-) There will not be many riders, and half of those who show up end up walking their bikes down the trails.

I'm an old guy and a little picky. What about the bushwacking factor? Do you put your maintance stamp of appoval on these sounds like awesome trails for the opportunistic rider? It's a long drive from hill^billy co. I'm just looking for a little happyness :D .

You guys have very good questions, and legitimate concerns! The trails are well maintained and not at all overgrown. In fact, Cattle Crest was re-routed last month, taking the + factor out of its black diamond designation; still very fun though. The Laguna Beach RADZ ride these trails under a docent-led program on Wednesday mornings. I am concerned the Irvine Ranch Conservancy will ultimately reroute the rest of the trails to reduce the accidents. Fox Run and Shady Oaks are still butt puckers, and a no-dab on Rabbit Run means you should ride for Red Bull! Keep in mind only sections of these trails are nuts; most of the mileage is intermediate-advanced while some sections approach Double BD's. I'd bring safety gear if you have it. No full-face helmets unless you enjoy climbing with them. Expect 25 miles and 3,500' of total climbing split up into 4 different loops.

Nah...a bee bounced off my cheek while I was riding the Irvine Ranch. I didn't know the stinger was still in my face until I finished the ride. It made for some good times at the office!

I'm 98% still in on this.
Still do not have a committed Shotgun Rider.
    - Joe Mac has suggested a possible interest but has his eyes on Big Bear.
    - Hill^billy sounds like a fairly strong possibility but has not said, "I'm going."

whut up??? A chance to snooze, while I cruise...

I'm in! TTB has shot me an invite to Sart but I think there is less chance this ride will be done again any time soon?

Just out of curiosity, how much dabbin do you do, you walk any of these trails? It just sounds like some of it isn't ridable? Is a downhill bike needed? Sounds like alot of people get hurt? I'm still going , I'm just wondering?

I've cleaned the entire ride one time, dabbed once another time, and have taken a few minor spills here and there. This area is best ridden with an AM bike because there is climbing involved. It's similar to CarWreck, HawkDrop, GoldenNugget, and FiveOaks down in the OC. Not tailored for a cross country rider, but great if you like Mt. Wilson, Dark Side, Joplin, ItchyScratchy, and some of the more technical stuff on Palm Canyon. For an intermediate rider, 85 to 95% rideable.

I'm interested, but had planned for Simpson Park that day. Gonna see if I can change plans to this, considering the rarity of this ride.

Update: I got the go-ahead from who I made plans with. He's wanting to stay close to home, so I'll be coming solo to meet up with you guys.

Thanks for the detailed discripion, I haven't ridden any of the trails you mentioned except for Palm Cyn. I cleaned it. Carpel Tunnel for the first time just hit me today after my ride, I hope I can pull a brake lever? F-ing old guy!

I haven't ridden any of those either. Only have ridden Oaks and the Luge over in OC. I'm more of a fast and flowy guy (on relatively flat, wide, and open trails), so I expect this to be totally out of my comfort zone.
