Been wanting to do a fun and somewhat bigger ride than the usual local stuff and wasn't sure what to do. Kinda last minute, my buddy Ryan (socal_rider) threw out Idyllwild as an option. So sure, why not!? Idyllwild is always fun and sounds like a perfect pre-superbowl ride.

However, Ryan and my other buddy Jay are in much better shape than I am. So this ride with their fast pace really kicked my ass. Which is good. I needed that. A little taste of iron in the mouth, heart pounding like it's gonna jump out of my chest, legs cramping and barely able to get back to the car. All good stuff. mile per mile, I don't think there is any harder riding than the Idyllwild Hub trails after the snow melts. I kept checking my brakes to see if they were dragging. It felt like we just climbed and climbed all day. so many rock features. hardest 17 miles of riding I have done in a long time.

Snow is pretty much all melted. a few patches here and there. no mud really. a few trees down. lots of sticks and leaves and not many tire tracks. hard to make out the trails sometimes. Can't wait to go back!

@CarlS don't sell yourself short. It was a grind all day. You hung in there strong. And the wrong turn /HAB didn't help things. My legs are a bit sore today. It's been awhile since I've pushed myself that hard. Feels good.

Going up high at Idy is always a tough day. I think with a 42t cog you would've faired much better.

Thanks for the mini RR and pics. Glad someone thinks to do this.

@Mikie the elevation gain was 2750 ft.

Let me know anytime you wanna go Mikie. It is only an hour away from us, I always ask myself why I don't go up there more often!
