I think very few were on HT's. I remember people being surprised that Sagan picked a HT, it's old tech these days. And odds are, the ones on HT's were guys who are "old school". All the contenders from my memory were on FS in Rio. 2012 Olympics were the year that people started transitioning. Women race HT's more often as they have a lower w/Kg compared to men. Funny enough, I would "hold my own" in the women's field (but still not win :(). Even then, women are on FS more often too. The weight penalty is so small now that they will all be on FS soon. I think women would be better off on 650b FS than 29 HT (hint hint manufacturers).

Sagan might have had a chance at doing well if he was on a FS. But he came from a day when the courses were far less technical and thought he could just bomb through with his power, and XCO isn't like that any more. You have to be technical now, he's not.

    DUh, me.
