    Hey guys, Tim here from the old STR site. Been lurking around here for a while now to keep up on what goes on in the old stomping grounds down south. I'm living out in the foothills in NorCal these days, riding everything I can turn a wheel on.

    Signed up for VQ for the first time in about 5 years, and wanted to get in on this year's discussion. Planning to come down and pre-ride in February, and I look forward to running into some of y'all out there. You guys seem to have built up a good little SoCal community on this site, I'm impressed.

    Hey, so how did you end up wrecking your El Mar? I've heard of them having vulnerable chainstays.

    I've had mine for about 6 months and been riding the hell out of it - races, Bend, even Downieville. Absolutely love the bike.

    I had a 2015 model that I bought at the end of 2014. It started life as a 2x10, then a 1x10, and finally a single speed. I think it was the plunge down Stairsteps that killed it... On the chain stay, right behind the bottom bracket. Salsa gave me a $$$ reimbursement, because there are no more el Mariachis in production.

    I loved that bike, but I'm also really happy with the Highball now. I just find it funny that Salsa paid me to buy another company's frame. o_O

    Her maiden voyage... completely stock, except for the wheels.
