Only way to get faster....is to ride with faster riders. Keep at it.

Sometimes, dare I say it, faster isn't better. I like a sufferfest as much as anyone, but sometimes getting on the road bike is simply a clear the mind, let's see where this road goes, wow this hill is steep, love this 40 mph downhill screamer, etc.

Yeah, I'm weird. No, I don't like road riding in groups of more than, say, three. :Roflmao

A friend of mine got a new bike and wanted to try and put in a century on it before Christmas. Details on his bike below. And, my first real ride on @horsebikerider 's old Felt!

6am roll out for me at 40*, dripping to 36 when I reached the group. Got a 2nd fastest time on a 5 mile long segment at the 90 mile mark while trying to chase the lead group to let them know that at least one person was dropping out! That one hurt.

New bike: Allied Alfa. American Made carbon bike. Friend is on a 58 and says he'll have it down to 15 pounds!

Nick is good at picking nice bikes. And he has come a long way in his riding. I think he is just now realizing it too.

Last ride of the year I wanted to do a good ride, stepping out the door this mrng. was foggy and a lil cold. I guess it could be worse like back east! pic below SGRT.
    2017-12-31 20.14.39.jpg
Continued down to PCH and up the Back bay, up San Joaquin hills rd. up ridge park, and decide to climb it twice.

    2017-12-31 20.18.03.jpg
After taking a rest at Coastal peak park instead of just decending New Port coast dr. decided to climb back up head over to Shady cyn.
    2017-12-31 20.20.54.jpg

After riding through Shady cyn. hopped on University dr. back to Mountain to the sea trail, to Back Bay dr. PCH to SGRT no headwinds to deal w/ it was 20mph. all the way back to Liberty park in Cerritos! The ride was a good one and very satisfied, told the wife this was one of my best rides if not the best one yet on the road bike.

Trying to mix it up before VQ... My skinny tired bike has been hanging on the garage wall since the Big Ring Century in May 2016.

Two roadie rides in the last two days. A short 15/1500 spin yesterday around RSM before doing the Old Camp night ride, and a 34/3000 spin today- Antonio to the 74 and Marguerite all the way back to el Toro and Cooks Corner. It felt good to be out there using different muscles than on the single speed.

Got home too late to go ride some trails, but knew I would have a full hour of riding if I hopped on a bike and headed out from home. So that I did! Hopped on my road bike which I haven't been on in a looooong time (Similar to @Faust29 !) and headed out. Seat felt too high, bars too narrow, and the whole bike totally noodly. Just didn't feel right! But those slick tires sure fly up the road, that's for sure!

I tried to pull off a mix of work and play on Saturday. 1) Pick up a welding job in San Dimas 2) Inspect a worn out pump in Corona. Hmmm, how about a gravel grinder in Temecula. I made it out to The Bike Shop-Temecula by 8 to enjoy the 41° take off weather. The group did a 30-mile loop thru some gorgeous horse properties, trekked over to a few wineries and managed about 75% dirt while doing it. The breaks were short, the views were stunning and the other riders were a GREAT group. This ride felt a whole lot like the Stradda Rossa ride in both scenery and dirt - everything from 3" deep sand to asphalt smooth hardpack. I'll be back for more!

Sounds/looks great! Do you have a route map? I'm interested in seeing where you went out there. Rumor is at one time riders in that area were kicking around the idea of a RSR type ride.

This was the intended route but we had a few detours due to fences popping up with road closures. We climbed to the south first and kept most of our miles to the eastern part of the route.

Thanks @pperrelle & @OTHRider !!! Other than driving to Vail Lake, I really don't know that area well, so want to learn the layout a little!
The Stampede looks like a good one for sure.

Here's a more racey series up north that also looks fun: http://grasshopperadventureseries.com Fantastic website as well!

Grasshoppers are no joke. With riders like Ted King and Leipheimer competing it must be a ball buster.

FIRST road ride of 2018!

Cruised past Descanso Gardens coming and going and did several laps around the Rose Bowl in between. Felt good to roll on the super-efficient bike (road bike).

I got a text that said: "Wanna take off work Thursday and do a big ride with me?"

I found the thinnest excuse to go, and used it. Such a beautiful southern California day. Low of 36° at the start at 6am topping out at 84°. Riding a new go me road up Greenspot, climbing to Oak Glen. Stop at #NCyclery for In-n-Out, then back home.

Home in time to pack up the Enduro for the Sycamore night ride!
