I DIDN'T Ride My Bike Today, Cuzz....

I didn't ride at all this weekend. I meant to ride this morning but an unwanted hangover from the night before grounded me. The drive home today from the high desert was a miserable one.

Us? We're simply lightweights. It's gonna warm up to 23F today with 70% chance of non-brown trails.

The FS closed a bunch of Buffalo Creek area until April. This snow will likely shut down Blackjack and northern part and other areas below 9k' (for us without fat bikes). We rode the goods, so are feeling like the mouse that ate the cheese...

 

I'm taking the day off to recover from Palm Cyn. It was a blast but I have to make sure the butterfly bandage on my forearm keeps my wound closed or else I might need a couple of stitches...

Although I rode Friday and Monday, I did not touch my bikes on Saturday or Sunday. One of those days was spent with the in-laws on their last day in California. My wife took them shoe shopping, and my son and I got dragged along. Do you want to know what I was thinking while shoe shopping with my mother-in-law? If I write it, @Mikie might ban me.

 

I was planning to but I still did not feel up to par as evidenced by my not preparing by getting my gear out and bike ready before the ride was supposed to occur.

However, I did finally get of me arse and do that so with any luck, tomorrow afternoon is a GO!

 

I had to go back to work...

 

Come ride rim of the valley and blue bug with us tomorrow night...

Yesterday a friend needed some work done to his bike.....so it was Suspension Rebuilding 101 Class. Took longer than I anticipated, but he completely rebuilt his RS Sid and serviced the air can on his Fox rear shock.

We then also upgraded his bike to 11 spd. Yay......not more "add a cogs".

 

Oh no. You gave him a crutch. And he knows how to use it.

 

I didn't ride my bike today because...wait....I did ride my bike today.

Yeah, but it works much better......and i couldn't spin the 30x46 around the flat parking lot....felt like I was going backwards.

 

Rode 3 days and was 1/2 way to my weekly goal. Then "poof" stayed late at work offering my amazing skills to the Chief Engineer. Then yesterday to save another product, then today to finish saving that product on more issues. I hope to ride sunset Friday if it does not rain. Or if I need to actually create a design solution to the Tuesday problem. I know that is what they want, but I just want to ride.

Didn’t ride because wife and I had an overnight getaway, original plan was Joshua tree but instead we stayed wed nite at a place in Desert Hot springs with a heated 24 hr pool, and a hottub in our suite; and spent 2 days exploring Indian Canyons near Palm Springs (near the bottom end of the Palm canyon epic, which I have yet to ride). hiked at tahquitz canyon, palm canyon, Andreas canyon, and Murray canyon. Water flowing in the creeks and waterfalls. It was neat to see all the water-loving trees and plants along the exotic waterways in such an otherwise arid landscape. Can’t believe I’ve never been there before. Oh, and got real up close and personal with a bighorn sheep 20 yards from the trailhead in tahquitz canyon.

 

...because I threw my back out this morning. I worked as long as I could today but the pain won the battle and I ended it early.

AND

..because it rained!

 

No ride yesterday because of doctor appointment.

No ride today because I just got home from work.

 

Got off early enough to ride but wife went back to work this week, watching both kids while she is out shopping. Gonna try to hit some in the morning.

I think yesterday might be the last day I could ride my dry local trails. After days of warmth it looked just epic out there...alas, I had to work, so gazed longingly from my keyboard as the day quietly passed. I should be thankful for the dry winter up to now – then there's human nature...

Back to my stand-by mantra, follow conditions. Maybe I should pack a snorkel.

 

Hmm.. here in OC, a little rain last night to freshen things up, sun shining.. follow conditions.. roger that, good buddy.

And back in snow country, keep your snorkel high and your powder dry.

Sunday is usually my day to ride but.... tried to mount a new rear tire Saturday, but just didn't get it done. Since I do most of my repairs in our living room, it got postponed to Sunday. Anyway, Sunday morning got the tire on, set, inflated, ran some errands.. came back and finished the job with adding sealant.

Good news is.. now it should be ready to go! Trying an Ikon 2.2. Mounted super easy, even held the air pressure without adding sealant. It did take a few tries to get the bead even around the rim, but pumping it up to 45 psi seemed to do the trick.

Thinking I'll pair it with a Ardent Race up front when the Nevegal X Pro wears..

 

Ikon is a great tire. 2.2 is my go to rear tire. Like the 2.35 up front.

Ardent Race 2.35 is good up front, but you gotta be kind of aggressive with it. It’s not a tire that like to be cornered casually. It needs to be pushed.

 

Good tire. I've had one on the back for quite a few miles now. As @mtnbikej would say, make sure it's the EXO.

 

Ok, what are other good options to pair it up front on a hardtail with older xc geo...?

Made sure it was the EXO, I don't mind a few extra grams for the peace of mind .
