I bought a "global" phone from outside the US (China). At first I was sure that it would work with the Family Mobile network...but not sure now. Phone is in transit and won't be here for another week.

Family Mobile says I need a phone that runs either 850 or 1900 MHz.

Here are the bands from the phone I got:
    • Network:
    • 2G: GSM B2/ B3/ B5/ B8 ; BC0
      3G: WCDMA B1/ B2/ B5/ B8 ; TD-SCDMA B34/ B39 ; CDMA2000 BC0
      4G: B3:1800/B1:2100/ B7:2600/ B5:850/ B8:900/ B20:800/ B4:1700 MHz; TD LTE B34:2100/
      B38:2600/ B39:1900/ B40:2300/ B41:2500MHz
These numbers look like like alphabet soup to me.

Can anyone tell me if the phone I got will be able to get LTE in the US?

The model of the phone is the Xiaomi Mi A1. Couple things appealed to me...1 is the price...and 2 is that is runs stock Android.

    Thanks!

I did see those two links before making the order. T-Mo uses 2, 4, 12, and 66 for their LTE networks. Apparently there is a band 4 available for the A1 on global versions. The "India only" version does not have a band 4...and that's what I believe the early reviewers got. Mexico also uses bands 2 and 4...and there are guys that are seeing LTE on their phone.

I'll find out in a few days if it works or not. If it don't work...oh well...lesson learned. I'll just toss it up on eBay. The price just went up 40 bucks since I made the order:D.

I'd be interested to know if it gets the 4G LTE.
The phone looks awesome, gets great reviews, the price is right, and I'll be in China in a couple of months...

Just get an iphone and be done with it.

iphone 6 models are getting cheaper with the release of newer models and a 6 is all the phone any of us will ever need.

I'll know for sure in a few days when I get it.

I don't know if it's sheer coincidence...but my current phone just bit the dust. It won't even turn on. Completely bricked. I just switched my sim into an old Nexus 5 that I've been keeping as a backup.

    Oh...and Android FTW!

We wouldn't be having this conversation if everyone had an iPhone. It's simple and it works. I have had android and after android. Got sick if the incompatibility issues. iPhone FTW!

I used to talk chit about Apple, too. But then I tried an iPhone and discovered that it really is "better".

When you guys can compile a stock Linux kernel on your "Android" phone, and open a root prompt, you can talk about purity. Until then, your phone is just the red headed stepchild, dependent on the Torvalds mother ship and whichever carrier you latch onto.

Yeah... I was playing with the original Linux-Android code when you guys were still flipping open your phones. :p

Today... iPhone. It's simple, and I don't have to worry that Verizon is using a three year old highly modified kernel that is no longer supported with security patches.

    Let the flaming begin!

I've got two Moto G4's and a Moto G5. My wife goes through phones like bags of microwave popcorn, so having a $225 phone when the inevitable destruction occurs is a nice thing :) (my wife is awesome and I love her but she is hard on the tech :))

FWIW the Xiaomi Mi A1 should be compatible with Family Mobile's (i.e. T-Mobile) 3G (UMTS) band @ 1900 MHz, or the 2G (GSM) band @ 1900 MHz.

The question of 4G data starts to get confusing because it differs based on which version of the phone you have. At least on paper, from both your list and the China product list on their site, the phone should be compatible with 4G LTE on T-Mobile's B4 @ 1700 MHz band.

This is not consistent with what the various web forums are saying... but who believes those people anyway? The early specs (and the specs many of these sites were referring to) were for the India phone. The specs are very different for the China phone. Note you will need a nano sim for this phone... you may already have a Family Mobile sim but make sure it is the correct size.

Ignore what Family Mobile says about 850MHz or 1900 MHz. That is for non-T-Mobile compatible phones.

This thread started about the compatibility of a Xiaomi phone on US carriers and it took only a few posts until an I-Phone cultist-troll put down his Tailwind and began spouting the dogma.
If I bought it, and overpaid for it, you should too. So says Jobs.
Still, I wonder why, worldwide Android is the OS of choice at close to 90% of phones using it.

    https://www.economist.com/news/busi...acturers-made-it-top-beating-apple-xiaomi-and

Never said Apple or Tailwinds suck, they probably do but whatever. I have listened to the arguments for and against, just like I listened to the arguments from Priests and politicians, and I made informed decisions based on my needs and wants.
Enjoy your purchase, keep it in your pocket, and don't shove it in my face and tell me it's better because you bought it.

I am the Rossage, resident curmudgeon and I approve this message.

Posted from my Android based phone-which doesn't need to be identified by a slick moniker, after all, its just a phone....

That's easy... The Linux kernel, which is the heart of every Android phone ever made, is completely free. Free to use, free to modify, and free to give away.

It seems that anything you don’t agree with is trolling and you have reasons why everything you do is the only way. If you don’t mean to come off as a d!ck than you’re doing it wrong.

I have had both iPhone and Android at the same time for years, ( work and personal ). They both have benefits and drawbacks. In truth, if Apple and Google got along we could have the best computer with a phone function ever!
I could go on, but what'ev.
Use what you want it's all good on the end.

Current Droid: Moto Z force. Personal phone.
Current iPhone: well due too get it tomorrow: iPhone 8. Work phone.

I never say that what I do is the only way. If you check, I believe you will see that is true. I really don't care what anyone else uses or is doing. I will do things my own way.
I state my reasons for doing things my way as opposed to "your" way. I am just not obsessed with the latest, greatest, must have, must see, must eat, stuff.

If you think I'm a dick, then that's your choice.
