Grizzly 100k

I signed up yesterday. Anyone else going?

 

It's on my schedule, but I haven't registered Rd yet. I'll be doing the Fondo not the race.

 

Not sure if it's going to conflict with taking the kid back to college... This one has been on my radar for 3 years, and something has always gotten in the way!

I would also be doing the Fondo. I'm too old, fat and slow to race.

 

I haven't done a real supported endurance event outside of ultra running, so this will be different for me. The Temecula races were always kind of a compromise with dealing with the pit and everything.

I just heard about this one this year, it got my attention quick!

 

I did it a few years ago....the 100k Fondo. It's a great route. Still finished ahead of some of the racers.

However I only got 8800' instead of the 10k' they advertise.

I got my condo reserved, so will be going up no matter what.

 

I think the Strava course map agrees. But I think they changed the course from a few years ago. Or maybe Derek just rounded up

 

If I'm out there, I'm ok with rounding up.

@Sidewalk - If you're into that sort of thing, the Wrightwood 50 is an unreal event. Unmarked, unsupported, technical all day long, and over 10,000 feet legitimately. Our ride report is on the forum from last year.

 

Holy cow, you have to drop down and climb up the mountain from SART back over to BB on that nasty fire road?!

Are electric assisted bikes allowed to participate?

 

I'm looking for the date on that one. I hear it's posted on Bookface, but I closed my account.

 

No.....you have to climb up from DT Big Bear, then drop down and climb up to SART...to Middle Control Rd before you climb back up to ride Skyline Trail in its entirety.

But yeah, Radford Grade sucks.

 

Just checked... They tease every now and then, but no date yet.

 

And no shuttling... No matter how nice the truck.

 

Well, I guess I'm out then...

 

Why in the world do they do this event in the heat of the Summer when it's hot and humid out and the terrain is loose, deep dust?

May. The month of May would be perfect.

 

I think the year before last, it rained on race day. When I did it, it was in the mid 70's all day, and not loose at all.

May is right in the middle of XC season. The race promoter races as a local pro and lives in Big Bear. So I assume he chose the time frame to work around XC season and weather.

 

This isn't an XC race/event?

 

$1000 for 1st place, down to I think $75 for 7th?

I won't be on the podium, but this does attract all the fast local pro's.

 

This is sounding fun. My buddy only wants to do the 75k, okay with that.

I signed up to race a while back.

 

Yeah, not a racer....so just going out for a nice Saturday spin.

 

Deciding... Looking at the calendar. It's filling up fast.

 

No brain = no pain

 

Not fast..::but can turn the pedals all day.

 

Do it...:I have room at the inn.

 

Racing isn't for everyone, I don't fault that.

 

Been there, done that....it's fun at times.
