I've never ridden this route/loop and thinking of doing - from Millard campground, up Brown Mountain > Ken Burton > Gabrielino > Fern Truck Trail back to Millard.

Thing is, I know part of Gabrielino is closed - according to Wikipedia (the fount of all knowledge and wisdom) says "parts of the Gabrielino have been closed by the USFS including the portion of the trail between Switzer down to the Arroyo Seco".

Is my route clear to ride? Or do I need to revise? Thanks in advance...

I think you’re good to go. Where has @rossage been?

@Andy, the section of The Gab between Ken Burton and JPL is open. I've done this loop a few times. Be careful going down Ken Burton, there are treacherous sections and it's steep, loose, and exposed along the way.

We should thank @Luis (and others here?) for doing his part to get Ken Burton opened up. Also thank him for his efforts to get the entire stretch of The Gab opened up between Switzers and JPL. It's almost open...

Thanks for the additional info @SnakeCharmer. Yes, I know some here (thanks to those) including @Erik H - MWBA have done a lot of work on this, having never been to these trails before, I just wasn't sure on which section(s) of Gabrielino were still closed, even after checking recent info like the L.A. Times article.

@Andy You're good to go on that loop. My suggestion however is to skip the Millard parking lot, park at the Windsor parking lot, do the KB Loop then climb back up Fern Truck trail to the saddle and head down and do El P.

Here's my strava of this route.

    Cheers!

@Andy are you camping at Millard? If so, then this is what I suggest: Millard>up Lower Brown Mt>Down El Prieto>Up Fern to Brown>Up Brown to KB>Ken Burton down to the Gab> At Paul Little sign hang a right and follow to the debris dam for a sightseeing/food break>Back down the Gabrielino to Fern>Back up Fern to the saddle>Down Brown Mt back to Millard. This route is about 23-24 miles :geek:
There is a water faucet on the Gab on your left right before the Ranger residences in case you need some before your climb back up Fern
The Millard parking lot requires a Adventure pass and fills up rather quickly on the weekends from the hikers/campers.
Cisco's route has you parking outside the forest area, so no pass is required :)

Thanks @Luis! Not camping, I usually park at the top of Chaney by the gate and usually head east/up Mt Lowe. Looking to do something different this time. Just stocked up on new adventure pass, and I'll be there during the week, so, fingers crossed, usually not too busy... Appreciate the extra route details! And thanks to @rossage for up to the minute trail conditions info

Unfortunately not... “unforeseen circumstances” so it’s still on the to do list...

Andy I rode the section from Switzers to jpl. There are 3 big slides in there with quite a bit of over growing PO. It made for slow going. I would not do it again till trail maintenance is finishes. I definitely would think twice about riding it solo. Just a thought.

Might skip Lower Sam Merrill and head up the pavement from Millard up to Cape of Good Hope. From then on it's the old Mt Lowe railway route, I can handle that grade a little better :)
