Fire on Mt Wilson

Woke up this morning and looked up at Mt Wilson, and said "Sh!t!"
Orange glow on the side of Wilson, near the top....
Channel 2 says 2 acres....
I can see the lights of helos

Damn.

 

I see it too. Bummer.

 

Here we go... I hope they get a handle on it before the winds kick up.

 

CBS now says 12 acres...

 

I could see the glow from the entrance of the Santa Ana River Trail in Riverside on my commute this morning. I wasn't sure where it was, but clearly a fire at the top of a mountain (or volcano).

35 miles according to GMaps

 

The fire is near all of the tv transmitters.

 

Darn! I have a riding buddy coming in from Tucson and we were planning on riding in the San Gabes.

 

Smoke is blowing away from the mountains. Road access might be a problem.

Probably got the top of Mt Wilson trail as I could see where it jumped the fireroad. If it keeps burning east then Sturdevant aka the dark side may be in trouble.

Take 'em on the SART... San Bernardinos are the only range to not get burnt yet this year!

I realize that they are working with 45 degree slopes which makes the burning zone hard to reach, but I sure hope they don't "let it burn in a controlled manor".

 

Yea looks like they contained the fire at the communication towers and observatory.
But they said it was burning down the front side.

 

News interview with a fire chief said it was burning to the SW. That would indeed be downhill.

Traffic is not too bad...hits brakes...
Not supposed to be too hot...sizzle like bacon
No fire over there...Smoke starts rising...

 

Looks like they have this one under control. A lot less smoke-but there is still some. Looks like its burning on the Santa Anita Cyn side...still scary.

 

NBC4, Patrick Healy reporting that the fire was "human caused".
They know the point of origin is a juniper bush on the side of the Mt Wilson Rd.

 

Eaton, Henninger, Chantry, and obviously Mt Wilson are all closed

 

This morning the smoke column was mostly going upward. In the afternoon it looked to be going sideways possibly in a SE direction?

We are rolling El P Friday morning, burning or not!

 

Probably a cigarette butt tossed out a window. Sigh...

 

Or a spontaneous combustion?

 

We need a new drummer.
