Eclipse (Ride?)

Since we all already have our Eclipse glasses, how about going for a ride to watch the celestial delight from atop a mountain?

Eclipse time is roughly between 9am and noon. Maximum (62%) in our area is about 10:20am.
Mt Wilson will probably be crowded.
Lukens is a good option, ~7 miles easy up from Grizzly-might even see the bear!
Ken Burton-another 7 mile uphill
Josephine saddle-part of the Strawberry loop. 4 miles up. Finish with 11 miles of singletrack.

Casual pace. Plenty of safety breaks-safety first!

Good idea and I wouldn't be surprised if there was some folks at each of the stated locations just for the fact.

I buried in work on Monday, so I am out.

 

I'll try to get out for an hour to ride the sugarloaf hills behind my office Monday in Box Springs Mountains Reserve. I may not get to though because I have a proposal due by Wednesday, you know, to get more work to, you know, pay my bills. Or maybe you don't know. I'll tell you my secret if you tell me yours.

I decided many years ago that being a corporate slave in pursuit of possessions and status was bringing me down. So, I downsized my life, quit the rat-race, sacrificed a few things, joined the circus and went riding...

What's your secret?

 

Replacing driving with riding for day-to-day activities is my goal. I just happen to be going to work most days. I feel fortunate nonetheless.

 

I want to leave the rat race...But my wife has horses.

But I am currently in a place where I can just take a day off when I want. I've been trying to save up some vacation time for next year, but this is a worthy cause. I'd probably ride solo though.

I don't have a map. I just ride the pedalable goat trails along the westernmost ridgeline and saddle due west of Sugarlaof Mountain. The routes are visible on Google Earth.

 

I've ridden some of those trails. Did they burn at all in the recent fire??

 

Some of them burned, but they remain relatively unaffected. Let me know a day before if you decide to head out there during the week, and I'll try to rendezvous with you for an hour during the day.

 

Also, don't stare directly at the sun.

The Eclipse ride has been eclipsed by illness.
Not mine, but as @DangerDirtyD knows all too well, by my elderly mother-in-law. A 3am drive to the ER has left my energy waning and as a result, my solar shadow aspirations have been shadowed themselves by well-needed totality of darkness as provided by my eyelids.
I guess I will join the millions trying to log on to the NASA site for the streaming show-or will they fake it?
Wait! Will the real Eclipse be on Fox? Or Breitbart? Or the Stormer?

 

You were up at 3am and not riding? Yea me too, but all I had to do was change a diaper. Sorry man.

 

Ha! I wish somebody had a diaper...it would have made the clean-up easier.....

 

If I am not mistaken, it gets dark every evening. Just saying.

 

I've been watching the eclipse through a pin-hole in front of my amazed Chinese neighbors.
I used 2 business card from my local dispensary. Nobody noticed.
