On Rob's Gondola Talk show Brook Macdonald called out GT for being sub par and the reason his performance has been off the mark. Back with his old team and qualified 1st. I guess that was facts not Sh!t talking.

Not sure why they need flagging for this course. Just tell the riders to take the absolutely worst line down the mountain..

    Well that was neat.

By the time the race came around, the teams seemed to have the tire-wheel and line selection dialed in. Not nearly as many flats as predicted, but still some big names dropped with their air pressure. Very interesting podium - love it! Some young, some veteran. Some 29ers, some 27.5. I'm ready to see them race on a 4 minute course again.

The Women's race was equally interesting. The time gap from 1st to 2nd was substantial, which is normal for the women, but not in this particular way.

I don't understand this "Protected Rider" system. It completely diminishes the value of qualifying.

I find it very confusing. There were protected riders before, so if they didn't qualify they still got to race. Now it just mucks up the start order. Leave it to UCI.

Great race! badass new track in the mix and great to see so many US riders in the top 15. Also stoked to see Blenki back on the podium. Yeow! The Bull Dogs' crash was a nasty one though. You know it was bad when he stays down. Also, Ravanel is beast in DH too apparently. Not surprising though.

If this is all about sponsor money and big name riders in the spotlight. How long until Trek invokes the Atherton clause? Because Gee is on the fringe. He didn't make the broadcast/not grandfathered "protected" because of an injury laden season 2017 and just barely made the top 20 (19th) round 1...

She is impressive. I wonder/hope if she can stay healthy and keep up the demands of doing dual discipline in tandem all season.

Enough time has past.... I still can't believe he lost time on the "urban" section of the track with all that Fontruckstop Wall experience he has....

I am sad for the Bulldog tho, and for the rocks he smashed on his crash, RIP Rocks, he was on a run!

Although the course was short, it was nice to see camera coverage of the whole course. On long courses, I hate when there is a minute plus gap in coverage and something happens there and nobody can figure out what happened.

Great top 5 for USA. Hopefully Luca Shaw can get on a roll this year. I like that kid.

Hats off to the riders in dealing with those rocks, but I question the course designer's integrity for not turning some chickens loose in the town section.

Round 2 WC DH at Ft. William Scotland this weekend. Redbull TV coverage at 4:30am Sunday (not sure if that's the women's start or what).

Biggest bummer, Greg Minnaar broke his arm so out for a couple rounds anyway. And they filled in the tree/mud section with a bunch of rocks. Looking forward to getting this season rolling after the pre-me start a month ago.

Should be an interesting race with Minnar out. It's hard to pick who could take it this year which will be a fun one to watch.

There's a new Rob Meets out with Gwin as well but redbull vids can't be embedded on here I guess so here's the link: https://www.redbull.tv/video/AP-1UWHCAZB51W11/aaron-gwin

Yeah, bummed about Greg. I was hoping he could win at least one more race this season - and Ft. Bill is a likely place for him to do so. He's been winning races and standing on podiums for over 15 years I believe. Watch out Kelly Slater!

Hey @tbarnesarc, do you think you distracted Minnaar when you talked to him earlier this year? Should we be blaming you? Coincidence that you are both in a sling? Or conspiracy!

Ha! Conspiracy! I didn't talk to Minnar or the rest of the team that night. I was too cool for them with the exception of Kathy Sessler. :whistling:

    Nobody watched or nobody commented?

Interesting race at Ft William Scotland Sunday. No Gwin nor Minnaar on the podium. Rachel didn't win either. A Scotsman almost won the thing, but ended up 4th. Three Frenchies in the top 5, and two Commencals on the mens' side and two on the womens' podium.

Well here, just spend 6 minutes and watch this for the whole story:

    https://www.pinkbike.com/news/full-highlights-video-fort-william-dh-world-cup-2018.html

Gwin holds onto the top spot in the series however, heading into Leogang, Austria this weekend where he has won each of the past three years. Make it 4, bro!

Seemed as though they were all hitting the same whole in the forest section.

Broken chains.....I mean really???? TDF Sprint finishes are pushing bigger gears at higher watts, and they aren't breaking chains.

Not the results that anyone could have predicted.

    Still a good watch.

Ahhhhh, but sprinting out of a starting gate on a full suspension bike over bumpy terrain, frantically upshifting with suspension bobbing wildly is a very different dynamic than a solid bike with a big chain ring already maxed out (not shifting gears - at least not as much).

ProPedal for DH bikes? Thicker chains? Singlespeeds? Hardtails?

The way Claudio gives subtle plugs for Commencal when his team is riding is laughable.

Except Claudio's team is Scott, isn't it?

But maybe that's what you meant. Maybe Claudio was complimenting Commencal bikes/team while his Scott rider (Fairclough) was on course?

The speeds, the terrain, the bikes, the skill and courage... so cool, and this is not race speed, just practice laps. This video gets better farther down the track.

Btw fingers crossed Ben Cathro works out the issues with Redbull. His analysis vids are great so hopefully they'll be longer in the near future.
