Didn’t know that other stuff about the email but given my current schedule it’s opening up regular (real) trail riding to me again and being a responsible trail user I’m not gonna have the patience to avoid it. Even without the fire damage I chat with people cutting trails out there so I’ll be another set of eyes out on the trails if anything. Maybe I can even get a hall monitor like vest.

This isn’t aimed at you specifically, you just posted the map.

The only legal entrance to the park will be off Windes Drive(the official park entrance).

You will not be able to access any of the Oaks trails from Irvine Park....that includes entering from Chapman/Jamboree.

Considering the park was forced to open, and they aren’t happy about it, sounds like there will be a zero tolerance policy for riding in closed areas...so expect to get cited.

 

People will probably start parking all over the neighborhoods around Windes rather than Albertsons and the park by the college. Residents are gonna love it. Windes is my usual way in so I’m good since I rode from home. To be honest I still won’t have time to ride much, just able to sneak in little ones which hasn’t been the case since the fires and birth of my very needy daughter.

 

It will be fine. San Clemente Singletracks burned early in the summer and has no real issues despite "reopening" pretty much instantly. There are a few spots where idiots made new lines cutting corners, so that will also likely happen at Oaks also. Not much can be done about it as the vegetation will take a very long time to return.

You had mentioned volunteering before the fires and I poked around the OC Parks site and seemed like my limited time and consistency to be out there wouldn’t work for their program. I would most definitely be willing to represent good will and help keep an eye on things out there but it would only be once a week or so for now if that, is that an option that you know of?

I also plan on hitting Jon K. up this winter for trailwork there when I can line it up. Oaks has been my playground most my life so I do want to give back more.

 

Just a follow up to my own post ... I rode Oaks today and the trails are in perfect condition. Deer is better than it was before the fire. I rode everything that was open that I normally ride other than Grasshopper and Peralta. I just hope Yucca does not become a regular climb for people, lol.

 

Yes, there will be one day volunteer opportunities coming up for trailwork. Keep your eyes posted. Other than that, please just be a good park steward and remind people if they are off trail. They don't have to be volatile confrontations, just friendly reminders that people who care about the park are present out there and keeping an eye on the ones who may not know or are being bad trail users. Basically, let's all do whatever we can to support the rangers.

Yeah, I went there to retrieve all my old pics....before the site went down permanently....but it took so long just to get to one of my pics. Plus half the time when I clicked on it, it just took me back to the main website page. I finally gave up and just accepted that those pics are lost.

 

Hey @mtnbikej Remember that dude that George from STR banned because he was starting another mtb website? Who was he and do you remember the site?

They have a nice archive of trails. Lot of exhibitions could be made to see how many of them still exist.

FYI: Chutes and Chutes Ridgeline will be open tomorrow 12/16/17.
Roadrunner Loop will be open as well and it looks like you can get it from Jamboree again.
