Irma is looking like more of a bitch than Charley, Frances and Jeanne were for me.

 

From my sister and her family in Houston to two brothers in Florida.

Our friend that crashed had a successful surgery yesterday. They were able to remove his lower leg and leave 8" below the knee, which is considered optimal for prosthetics. So everybody is pretty happy about that. He'll be back, there is no doubt about that. Thanks again for your kind thoughts.

 

I fell with my bike while trying to unclip. First time I've done that since my first clipless ride over 20 years ago!

I really don't have any words for this, but it sure sounds like he's "the" guy to handle this type of rehabilitation. Serious injuries really put the little things we sweat into their proper perspective.

 

Thanks, Steve. Ammon (McNeely) put a note on his FB page RE his injury and outlook, and he is doing well also.

Hugh Herr and Malcolm Daly paved the way for adaptive climbing tools resulting from climbing accidents. Hugh is a double lower leg para, Malcom a single. Med/athletic device state of the art is high and Ammon has a perfect interface. For him, this will be merely another of many challenges in the air, on big walls and in life. And you gotta admit, the El Cap Pirate with a peg leg is totally f_ing on-brand.

Hugh, first lead by any climber on a 5.12c X testpiece in NH. X means extreme danger in a fall and/or poor pro, as in decking on a big ledge. Awkward and marginal thin nuts. Badass beyond words:





In some ways, debilitating injuries don't seem any different that normal life. You peak, then it's more or less DH, with body parts getting trashed along the way and adjustments made to suit. These guys that drew a bad hand end up being some of the most motivated and accomplished athletes anywhere. I know Ammon will be one. I kid with his brother that he might be able to climb with us now...a joke but not .

Ok - I was hoping he didn't provide Tigger with lines of blow. That would explain his exuberance, but would blow my image of the 100 Acre Wood. Although I am fairly certain Eeyore is on quaaludes and Pooh is a chronic chronic user, which would explain his consistently poor judgment and insatiable appetite for snacks. Oh Bother!

 

Wow, @mike I didn't realize the injury was so severe. But I think you're right. He will be back.

 

My friend in Jacksonville says that Irma has produced some 50mph winds and at least 6 of rain so far since it started.

Frank G. Bonelli Regional Park, wedged between Raging Waters and the L.A. County Fairgrounds near San Dimas, would host mountain biking. Some upgrades would be required but the course would not have to be built from scratch, LA 2024 said.

 

Looks like we got the 2028 Olympics.

 

Olympic Games are exempt from review under the California Environmental Quality Act. I think Project piggybacking should become an event in 2028.
