    Really glad to get this off my chest. . . . . . ;~)

Been 'braaaping' on a bicycle since I was a kid (that's a looong time ago). It just means that you're 'on the gas' in some respect. We all dreamed that we were dirt bike/motocross stars of the day like Roger DeCoster, Bengt Aberg, Steve McQueen and others. Those kids in the iconic opening scene of On Any Sunday were most likely braaaping. We never differentiated between two-strokes and four strokes while braaaping. Braaap would fit either type. "Ring-ding-ding-ding-ding', however, was distinctly for two-stroke imitations only, and would be considered a 'party foul' if used in error (imitating a four stroke). You would have done better to have farted without 'braaaping'.

'Roost' comes nowhere near torquing my gourd, but seems more out of place while mountain biking. My recollection is that 'roost' is a dirt biking term that was born from the 'rooster tail' that was originally used to describe the propeller (or 'jet') spray coming out the back of a speedboat. I have never seen anything resembling that from a MTB, even when 'braaaping' to the nth degree ;~)

If I were to choose a term I have seen used in the MTB world that does torque at my gourd a bit, it would probably be the improper use of the word 'weight', as in: "My new bike weights 28 lbs." Totally grinds my gears. Nails on a blackboard for me. Like when Brian goes berserk when Stewie says "Cool Whip".

I have never, ever heard anybody say "My (anything) weights (28lbs)." I have heard people use "heighth" instead of height, but that sort of carries over from "width."

Can somebody please give us some mtb sounds we can utter while mtb-ing? How about the sound of tires barely gripping while going down something steep? The sound of suspension rebound damping working its magic? The "clunk" of a SRAM 1x11 system shifting down the cogs? I think I might just use pretend ski sounds instead.

Interesting theory that is within the realm of possibility, but I have not seen any program I work with (and I teach Microsoft Office during the week, and work at the LBS on weekends) try to make that correction. It might be a regional affectation from some odd corner of the world, but I haven't been able to make that connection.

These days there are square taper cranksets that have replaceable chainrings (and those chainrings have well designed ramps and pins to aid in good shifting) in the $50 range. I almost bought one today for my 1996 GT as an upgrade to the original Acera crankset with it's fixed chainrings that is on the verge of retirement.
