We're looking at March for our Pioneertown event. Will be working out some details in the next couple of weeks. Last year was our first year putting on this event and it seemed to be well received. We're looking at tweaking a few things including the name. Any suggestions are welcome. Most likely, we're going to have this as a timed ride. No categories or anything like that (like last year). It's just a fun and challenging ride and you'll get a time at the finish.

Last year it was called the Pioneertown Gravel Grinder

    New Ideas -
    Pioneertown Gran Fondo
    Pioneertown Grinder
    Pioneertown Adventure
    Pioneertown 50 miler
    Pioneertown Fifty

The name was probably a little misleading... As the cross bikers found out at the rock climb. But I will be out there again no matter what you end up calling it. It was a really good event.

I'd vote for the Gran Fondo name. It is the only one on the list that is bicycle specific, and it gets the idea across. Similar to the Catalina Gran Fondo. All of the other titles could be foot races...

YEah, I felt sorry for the CX riders last time....some of the DH was pretty chunky.

    I'd drop the Gravel Grinder

    I like the 50 miler & Fifty.

Or you could call it the Pioneertown Sand Slog. J/k....it was only a few miles of that. :whistling:

    Added to the calendar.

The format will be similar and the course will be similar but will have some modifications to it.

We do have some perks that we'll announce as the event gets a little closer.

One change I can tell you now is we will not be starting at 7:30am this year. 9:00am is what we're looking towards. With most people having a bit of a drive to get out there the early time was rough.

    Nice work, pinnacle10.

RE the name: I think it would be a missed opportunity to not infuse some heritage, namely the old west and/or movie set aspect.

    Pioneertown Rustle
    " Stampede
    " Mosey
    " Gittyup
    " Saddleup
    " Cattle Drive
    etc...

Associated thematic possibilities for the event are nearly limitless. Have some fun widdit : )

Too many cycling event names are boring, and why the Italian? Double boring!

    Cheers...

Yea, I was thinking why not something like Wild West Wheel Wrangle. Can joke about bringing up your metal (or carbon) steeds to experience the historically-themed town and nearby trails. Can shorten it to the W-4, which is kind of related to the date.

Great points. My wife actually had the same idea after I started this thread. (Pioneertown Roundup and Pioneertown Cattle Drive were a couple of her ideas).

For now it's called the Pioneertown Ride. The name doesn't get any more boring than that, but it describes the event for now until we finalize the name. Thanks for the comments.

    Hey @pinnacle10
I agree with these guys Jeff, time to come up with a saucy name to catch peoples focus. We can run a banner for the event here on imtbtrails... My treat!

More info coming soon. Event webpage along with the registration page should be up by the end of the week.

    Here's the basics -
Format will be similar to last year - a timed ride.
There will be a 50 mile option and a 35 mile option.
Ride is March 26, with a 9:00am start.
Ride will be free and we will be accepting donations.

    Thanks for everyone's support.

I'm not feeling this ride this year. Those miles of sand were horrendous on a full squish late in the ride for me.

The only reason I'm still clicking on this thread is it might be a good fitness measurement stop for Catalina, which I do want to do. Without seeing the routes, I can't imagine the 35 does anything but cut out the fun stuff (the stuff from miles 20-35 in the 50 route from last year) and yet still has you traversing the sand twice >.<

I'm not meaning this as a discouragement to anyone or the organizers, just communicating as I was one of the imtb folk that did this ride last year :).

The condition of that section probably changes frequently. I'll be doing a rain dance every day in the weeks leading up to the event.

I didn't get out to Hell Ride, so this is my chance to support a worthy cause... I love seeing the kids on bikes- even if it's only briefly as they fly by!
