He knows this and I am sure he would sue for using this term. Because you may get confused if you used any other term to describe him.

That's a great looking bike, but the title of the thread is a bit over assuming. I can't say that undiscovered intelligent life on the other side of the universe has not all ready invented a better mountain bike. However, I doubt they would have the same surface type or gravity we have so of course this bike may not be well suited for their environment as other alien bikes may not be well suited for ours. So again with the Surly bit... Also I believe I heard the Alienized brand now has patent on hover tires that do not flat so it is much more likely that the Alienized bike is the best bike in the universe as the bike would never flat in a race. Also I heard that the Alienized bike brand will sue all other bike brands on all habitable planets in the universe thus making theirs the only bikes available in the entire universe so there is no longer any other options.

I kind of grinned when the debut of the Speshy superbike resulted in - Richie Rude winning on a 27.5 Yeti - again.

Sorry that Jared Graves is the victim of Speshy's tires. I wish he were still with Rude on Yeti.

  10. What's that second chainring looking thing attached chainring? And there is a shifter looking cable running to your chain guide, what is it? Looks trendy.

First is a U238 hardened rock crusher hardened to an 11 on the Mohs scale.
The second is a hand made, one-off, gear changer up thingy. I'm trying to think of a fancy French name for it but "fromage" ain't it.

Taking the heat off of Rossage with a 3x10. This is my budget build, I bought it off Craigslist from a 6'8"guy for a song. It was set up strangely (risers/extensions/road tires) with very low end everything. Having other bikes I took my time with Craigslist, eBay, Jensen etc. What I didn't have experience with I went to squeaky-wheel LBS for crank/detailers/gripshift and they did a fine job installing. I did get some strange looks when I decided on old school 3x10. I'm pretty sure its called I drive linkage and it's MINDRACKINGLY discontinued. while going hard out of the saddle it stiffens up then when you go over stuff it gets squishy. My last full suspension was a 2000 stinky5 and no lockout... kona's are great but I didn't prefer it. The plan was fork & shock upgrade but the reality is they're plenty good enough for me. This outdated bike makes me all kinds of happy and is the best bike on earth.

This is too easy to answer.,,

The best bike in the universe is the bike I (or any of you) happen to be riding at any given time. Because at that given time, the stars are are all aligned and there in balance in The Force.

In closing, everyone here owns at least one "best bike in the universe".

Long story short, I decided it was time that I go long.

So I got a left over '16 Enduro 29 from my LBS. It's the aluminum comp, so the cheapest model. No bells and whistlers, and heavy (for modern standards). I kinda wanted the 650b instead of the 29, but the 29 has the ability to run 650b+ which I thought would be nice for trail riding soft places like SART and Skyline where I won't be using the suspension anyway. I've really got nothing to compare to. My 130mm bike has XC geometry being a 2012. And since I am new to MTB, I haven't ridden much. But hot damn does this bike descend! I rely on my extra capacity legs and lungs to do the work of getting me up the hills.

Does a 160mm 29er smooth out the trail? Yes, if you ride the same trail the same way. OR, you can pick new lines, find options you didn't look at before. And it is amazing how some trails change when you start taking them in with speed. Roll off's on a HT start becoming drops. Smaller rocks end up being just to clear boulders, etc. You can either ride the same trail and make it more boring, or you can find new trails.

Best bike ever? That's the bike I'm riding at the moment!

Spec spec'ed (see what I did there?) some shitty wheels, so those have to be upgraded soon. I've wrecked the rear in about 150 miles. But I will consider going coil. MRP has a coil fork, and is rumored to be working on a coil shock.

That is a 2013? I have one in the garage in black/red! I put a lot of miles on that bike... Agree with the suspension description. Out of the saddle, it pedaled really stiff, with very little bob. I did my first few 50 milers on it- Rwanda and the Julian Death March!

It was called into service last year when I was waiting for the Highball frame, and knocked out another 50 on the Holy Jim- San Juan route.

Faust. It's a 2012. I like the simplicity of the linkage also.
