I hate reading that they will kill the grizzly once caught - so disheartening.....

Yellowstone is in WY, not WA.
Seems like they will kill the bear only if they can prove it's the killer by DNA tests.

Jaime, hate to be the bearer of bad news (see what I did there?), but a 9mm will just piss him off. He may die later, but only after he's eaten you.

Apparently the bear dropped its keys. Now it will have to walk back to the den.

The bottle cage mounted pepper spray is on my shopping list next time I'm in that part of the world.

I had a mama grizzly with cubs cross the trail just outside Yellowstone. Ride over, I'll just turn around right here....that said, the bike shop guy told me he had been there all season and hadn't seen any himself. But they did a brisk business in those bottle cage mounts.

The mother bear was put down today, according to CNN. They said that the cubs were transferred to another facility, but it sounds like they will not be put down.

Mom gets the death penalty and her cubs get life without parole. People get less for running down a cyclist!

I get that someone could feel a twinge of loss, but I save disgust for loss of human life. It's just a bear. There are lots more of them that haven't killed anyone.

Don't worry Rox, there are those that are trying... Over 54 MILLION unborn human lives have been aborted since Roe vs. Wade took effect... Not to turn this post into something worse than it already is... :(

    Oh Mikie can't you tell I'm Pro-Choice??

Many reasons a woman aborts an embryo (and unfortunately fetus). I don't judge; they have to live w that decision. The bear was being a bear, that's my problem w the Forest Service killing her when she DOES have cubs to care for. Sad.....

Nope! Not going there... This is a mountain bike website. This is where I set the standards of imtbtrails for taking the emotion out of it and just accept the different opinion... ;)

Old thread... but for what it's worth - you can't fly with bear spray - even in your packed luggage. Plan on buying it there, or in some cases (like Yellowstone) some places will rent it and you get money back if you return it unused.

So I just tried to purchase bear spray on amazon but it would not ship to my address in CA. Dork. But I can buy it at a store here?

This is a reason why I don't venture into bear territory alone. Not a good idea. There was a guy in the news who got attacked in the same trail twice (4 yrs apart) by a bear. Bad luck.

and you can't shoot grizzlies with low caliber guns/bullets. It will just piss it off more. Take an automatic weapon.
